the social aspect was very much a reason for our success. Players and coaches have all said it in interviews.Ok this whole drinking and bad boy schtick and our awesome 90s team seems to be doing the rounds lately.
Correlation not causation for mine.
We had a strong authoritarian coach able to implement a clear effective gameplan and set of on-field behaviours.
And a very talented group from 1993 to 2001 who really underachieved if anything.
Hitting the beers is an interesting side note but not why Corey McKernan could kick 65 metres and tear a game apart or Wayne Carey could mark between 3 blokes dedicated to stopping him. Or the midfield relentlessly won contest after contest and drove it forward
If that dynamic didn't exist, we may have been less successful than what we were. We may have resembled...every other club who envied what we had.
