Commentators barracking

And somehow Mark Robinson is on the TV or Radio every day, not to mention the chief AFL writer for the Herald Sun. He must be a bloody hard worker because he doesn't seem to have the talent, nor the ability to articulate, nor the hair to pull out!
Slobbo caters for the idiot bogan element of the audience.

Well I was at that game so fortunately didn't have to listen to his commentary. Maybe I should rephrase and say that he has never barracked for Adelaide in any game THAT I HAVE WATCHED HIM COMMENTATE. That's 100% fact. I'm not being selective.

If you reckon he is not biased against the Crows, well I don't know what to tell you. Start paying attention maybe?

Well obviously he was barracking for Carlton on Saturday - so he was showing bias against the Crows for the game, but I felt like it was more trying to lift the 18th place team rather than having it in for Adelaide...

I just wanted to respond to your claim that he has never commentated biasly for the Crows

"The next month Collingwood could win all three, lose all three, or split it."

Thanks Hame.

Heard that. Hamish is a deadshit behind the mike. I'd be a Seven commentator if my older brother was head of the AFL, but instead he's in IT. Cost me a career in the media.

Commentary in the AFL is a joke. Anthony Hudson is the only decent commentator in the competition(?) who is unbiased and doesn't use stupid terms. Just commentates the game. Would honestly consider starting a petition to get the whole of channel 7 kicked off of the air and just have Anthony Hudson and find some other gem, maybe from radio.

let's just clone THIRRRRRRRRRTEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNN Huddos

Jason Dunstall isn't happy enough to cheer for the Hawks he has taken it to a whole new level, openly spiting the opposition especially after they beat Hawthorn.

Commentators like Dunstall should not be allowed in the broadcast box, they are a bloody disgrace.

Hate it. It's their job to be unbiased. Twice I have have noticed it against Hawthorn this year. In losses to Port and GWS.
First time BT was going off his rocker every time Port got a goal and barely whimpered when Hawthorn got one. Don't usually mind BT even.
The one against GWS was the most obvious one. You'd think a team of disabled 10 year olds were beating the Harlem Globetrotters by the way they were all carrying on. Actually cheering their goals it seemed like. Tall poppy syndrome at its highest

I don't have a problem with them trying to 'talk up' a game.

But if you compare the commentary in general;

North vs WCE - they called the play and kept with it, plus a few jokes especially about the conditions;

Port vs Bulldogs game - calling the play was secondary to everyone trying to out-joke each other. Dermott is the worst, with his patronising "he would be thinking..." bullcrap very 2 minutes. It was like having a bunch of deadshit bogans sitting on your couch talking rubbish while you're trying to watch the game.

Beats me why these TV stations think that paying these ex-footballers to blather on for 3 hours is preferential to having one person calling the game and another adding special comments 3 or 4 times a quarter - cheaper too. I don't even mind Richo - at least he looks like he's trying to take it seriously as a career - unfortunately he gets stuck with BT and it ends up like two kids arguing.

Hopefully the strict head-high contact rules will mean that in 30 years time we'll have some ex-footballers who aren't brain damaged.

Agree about Friday night, the bias Freo commentary definitely flowed through.
I think next time ch7 will send Hamish or Bruce over to Perth to split up the Dennis/Basil local theme.

Found the Port Bulldogs game to be particularly bad.
Not from a biased point of view but it was almost as if the game was the second show on TV with the callers being the primary show that people had tuned in to watch.

Special comments are anything but when they happen 100% of the times. Please let us enjoy the game and stop talking so much.

That poor underdog Freo last night.

We were a pretty firm underdog when we were 6 goals down in the 2nd quarter, yeah. As the first guy said, they do this in every single game to try and stop neutral viewers from turning off a one-sided game. I've watched every Freo game this year and you better believe they were doing the exact same thing for the opposition in rounds 1-8.

Nick Maxwell is shocking.

Multiple times yesterday you could hear him in the background when others were commentating saying "Go Marley" "hard at it Sidey" etc.

Was also very very quiet when Melbourne were destroying them in the 2nd

Two of the worst commentary efforts ever were on ABC telecasts...the Swans v Hawks game in Sydney in 2012 with Paul Roos in the box actually groaning on air when things didn't go Sydney's way, and the last day of the Sydney test against India during THAT series when every commentator in the box did his best to placate Harsha Bogle...

Contrasts with college radio in America when the home team broadcasts their games in various sports...it's done by unashamedly biased students all chugging beer in the background...hilarious...!

Round 1, 2002 when North played Port in Adelaide.

It was our first game without Carey and the doomsayers were (yet again) predicting our ultimate demise.

Cue an Adelaide stacked commentary box salivating at the chance of Port finally breaking through for their first win over us.

Didn't happen. We played man-on-man the whole game instead of zoning and simply killed their running game. The sooking in the box was unbelievable.

Worst I remember for a North game (plus almost any game Roos with Derr-wayne calling the play). I'm spewing I missed the other matches this weekend. Sounds like it would be good for a laugh, like BT and Richo commentating Richmond games......

Tim Watson - Essendon games
Mark Ricciuto - Adelaide games
Jono Brown - Brisbane games
Cameron Ling - Geelong games

These guys are conflicted (particulary Watson and Ricciuto) and the above combinations should be avoided whenever possible, but the networks seem to actually do the opposite and try to accommodate it. For example, Fox flew Ricciuto over to the Gold Coast so he could call Suns vs Crows. Ridiculous.

Come at me everyone but I actually love Eddie as a commentator.

Agree with others but Not Ling. He is good and not biased at all. He doesn't hide his allegiance but his comments are defiantly not biased and are very refreshing.

The worst I've ever heard was a couple of clowns on 5AA calling a Showdown a few years back. Every player had a nick name I'd never heard of and they screamed and cheered when anything good or bad happened.

One of them even shouted 'BALLLLLL!'

It was pretty hilarious. No idea what the score was haha

If thats the bit I'm thinking of (a discussion with Maxy last weekend) despite the reeundancy of the actual words, his implications were pretty correct: that the Pies are at a key point of the season and the next few weeks could really shape the rest of our season. (although that could apply to anybody)... At that stage we were 5-3 with 3 tough-ish games coming up... Before a very tough 4-5wk run. Win all these 3 and we give ourselves some insulation to still be able to make the 8, but drop 2-3 of them and with the run to come you could safely say that we wouldn't be making the 8 at the end of the season.
