Please post here with results etc from the Games. I see that Australia have won their first gold and bronze medals in Diving, good to hear!!!.

Im sure everyone's heard that one of the shooters took a banned substance, but it was only medicine, so i think thats ok!

Shame the Opening Ceremony wasn't televised live. Oh well, it'll give me something to watch before the footy comes on tonight.
But I'm surprised the diving was held before the Opening Ceremony. It's a trend we saw at the Sydney Olympics with the soccer starting before the Opening, but it sort of defeats the point of having a grand opening is the games have already started.

80% of our medals will come in the pool ... When you have a list like this, who could argue?

Ian Thorpe
Michael Klim
Grant Hacket
Matt Welsh
Geoff Hugell
Justin Norrish
Matt Dunn
Petrea Thomas
Samantha Rhylie
Sarah Darcy

etc, etc, etc

True, no one shoudl get anywhere near thorpe.

Why do I get the impression that Australia in Commonwealth Games is a lot like putting Sachin Tendulkar in an under-8's game of Cricket.

:D

Is it only my telly, or has Ch 7 gone off the air? I thought it might just be the Optus cable, but the outdoor aerial doesn't work either.:( :( :(

I heard that the Opening Ceremony was on at 4:00am EST (Australia) so, I can understand why Channel 7 decided to have a Delayed Coverage.

In the Swimming, it's like a man kicking a dog or Brisbane playing against the Manangatang 3rds, but the Athletics should be good, and the suprise in these games should be the performances of the home countries (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales), with the UK's improved showing in Sydney 2000, and the pile of money that's been given to sport over the last few years, because of the National Lottery, I think that these countries should do well in these games.

Just saw an Aussie's commonwealth games over in 4 minutes. Boxing, knockout rounds, he lost, thats that. Poor kid :(

We'll no doubt finish on top of the medal table based purely on the swimming, the only country that challenges us in the States and they aint in the Commonwealth.

Should be interesting to see if Thorpie can beat Welsh in the Backstroke.

Also, is Shirvo and Johnson running in the 100 metres?

Shows how much attention / care factor I have towards it.

On the way home tonight I noticed a billboard where Albany Hwy and Shepparton Rd diverge advertising the Commonwealth Games and I'm like "**** that was yesterday".

Well, we're not that great at Boxing and the kid in question, (Bradley Hore) was disqualified in the Flyweight division during the Sydney Olympics at the last minute, because of an un-timely growth spurt that made him too heavy for his division, but he didn't use his height or his reach during the fight, and let the Sri Lankan fighter dictate terms, which lead to an easy win.

About swimming, it's really just a competition amoungst ourselves, and if the swimming was removed out of the games, the medal tally would be a lot more even.

And lastly, Matt "the lunchpack":D Shirvington has pulled out (and believe me, he has a lot to pull down there :D ) of the Commonwealth Games due to Ostiatis Pubis, maybe it was too heavy for him to carry :D . (I wonder if Lindford Christie and Daley Thompson had the same problem).

Patrick Johnson on the other hand, is at Manchester, and a semi-final and possible finals berth could be a possibility.

P.S
I may as well start with the Matt Shirvington jokes before everyone else does.
