Have been watching this and Modern Family since they came to free to air and though they are both good, I am liking this more at the moment.

Abed is an absolute gun and Alison Brie is a stone cold fox

Community is so much better than Modern Family. Modern Family is a bit a of disappointment to be honest. Just falls short and is pretty obvious. Does have some funny parts but just lacks edginess that it kinda tries for but doesn't quite reach.

Absolutely.
Joel McHale, who i'd not seeing before this, is a very talented guy, Ken Jeong is hilarious in small doses, Chevy Chase' comic timing has never been better and Danny Pudi is a real standout as the brilliant Abed.

Just an awesome show and glad to see we'll get a second season.
 
Wow I am almost glad I took a few sick days this week. I had not watched any episodes of this show since the mid season break. I picked it up from the Halloween episode and completely lol'd, totally forgotten how brilliant Abed is. Impossible not to laugh at every one of his batman lines.

The last 5 episodes of the season were at another level, the show is BETTER than Modern Family. The Paintball episode was just legendary. The Good Will Hunting pisstake with Troy as a plumber was perfect, replacing Pierce with a goat I couldn't stop laughing. The chicken mafia episode.

I love the endless one liner pisstakes of other shows. Burning John Belushi twice in a completely irrelevant conversation and of course.

**** there's some idiots on this site - the show is ok, reasonably funny, ridiculously predictable and follows the same ol' sucky sucky formula of most US sitcoms.

Hilarious that people on here are proclaiming it to be a masterpiece when in reality it's just a decent show.

Solid show, quite enjoying it. It's replaced Better Off Ted in my rotation now that has been cancelled.

I can understand the praise. There just aren't that many good comedies around at the moment. Modern Family is brilliant. Chuck has been awesome but now is more of a dramedy. HIMYM and TBBT have gone off the boil in recent seasons. That's about it out of the US.

There's nothing much of interest from the UK until we get new seasons of The Inbetweeners and The IT Crowd, and as for local content, the Kiwis are doing the best work with Outrageous Fortune. That's about all.
 
Did a marathon of Community over two night a couple of weeks back. Love it. Great Cast, Alison Brie is goddam irresistible.

Have loved all those shows, and watched them probably all twice (except Better off Ted which was absolutely shit). I also agree about HIMYM and TBBT. So I am downloading the first five eps on your advice. Hope its good!

Make sure you post after you've watched. Of the ones I mentioned, IMO the humour is probably closest to Better Off Ted so I'm curious as to what you think of it.

Loving it so far. I've only watched up to episode 4 so far, but it's great. To me it seems a fair bit closer to the U.S. Office, with two normal characters and their interactions with a bunch of oddballs (but with the sarcastic wit of the British Office) but obviously not in mockumentary style.

I never really gave Better off Ted a shot, but I watched the first five or so episodes of it and thought it had no redeeming features, and I really disliked the main guy. I can see the comparisons, but Community seems a lot funnier so far.

Abed and others are becoming a lot like Jeffster which is part of what makes Chuck so great, but I think he may even be funnier. Also Chevy Chase is better than ever!

It's hard to get a real gauge on the show after 4 episodes but a big tick, and a big thanks for getting me into it. Hopefully it will get me through till September 23 when my weekly cycle can continue.
 
This is a great show, I have smashed through the first 19 episodes in 3 days. I was surprised to see Joel McHale in it, I am a huge fan of The Soup. The cast is awesome and I am also loving the Abed/Troy thing that is going on. Also agree about Alison Brie, she is top notch.
 
Amazing show, can't wait for the new season. The paintball episode was amazing as other have said, but I also liked the goodfellas ripoff (the chicken episode). All of the characters are great, there isn't one I find annoying!

Absolutely awesome show. Rattling through Season 1

It's fantastic that they've gone away from the whole Jeff/Brita thing and also not rolled with the Jeff/Annie thing that was going on. As much as they like to take off almost every other show and movie out there, (mainly through Abed) the whole will they, won't they cliche is really god damn boring and although they'll probably go back to it eventually, at least they haven't made it take over the show.
 
I like Community a lot more than Modern Family. I enjoy Modern Family but it's often very obvious and also misses the mark way too much. Can't understand the "brilliant" talk. Community isn't a game-changer by any means but it's slightly different and has way more laugh out loud moments. The chemistry between the 7 main characters is fantastic.

My only problem is the casting of Joel McHale. I like the guy and the character still works, but I get the impression Jeff is some super charming and good looking bloke who women find irresistible. McHale is not that guy.
 
Talk at TV By The Numbers is that they're headed for cancellation at the end of the season. I hope not, I really enjoy it and would like to see it go for at least another season or two (three or four seasons seems to be optimal for most US comedies before they start to get stale).
