Complacency

Almost lost us the game in that second half, just got lazy.
We went from being quick, skillful and hard working to lazy, slow and ineffective.
Let's hope this is something we can nail out of our game by the end of the season.
If we'd played like that against a top 8 team in the second half, we'd have had a 60 point swing in the oppositions favour.

In the end, win is a win and we're 7-1.

Very true. When Fletch first went off to have his leg treated we seemed to lose structure. 40 minutes later it seemed to come back. Everyone seemed to be waiting for someone else to do the work.

My fear is that that little passage gives us an indication of what life after Fletcher will be like (in the short term at least).

We really struggled from kick outs when Fletcher got sore and stopped taking them and then subsequently went off.

We also got "out worked" tonight. I doubt the Weapon will be very happy with that.

With some depth building, I wouldn't mind a statement being made with a few players.

Dempsey clearly can not play with any type of niggle - didn't fly for a mark in the square when he had too before a much younger Melksham showed him how it was done.

Calling it complacency smacks of disrespect for the opposition. They played well in the second half and stopped us playing the way we wanted. But for all that hard work and impressive footy from Richmond, we still won by 3 goals. Very pleasing.

You're kidding. Right?

We were pushed by a team that's been playing some great footy in the last month, without falling over the line against some pretty feisty opponents. If we had of lost, I'm sure blokes like you would have been starting threads with "trade this guy" or "sack the other".

Be greatful that in the end, after being pushed, that our whole 22 was able to overcome a pressing side and get the 4 points in a tight game. Something we've struggled to do over the last 24 months.

In 8 games we've shown some great skills and some pretty ordinary ones. In a team that is still learning, be thankful for small wins. 2012 is still a learning year for a push to 2013/14.

Any complacency shown for results like tonight is from supporters who haven't battled through the last 11 years with the highs and lows of the club.....expecting everything is owed to them. Be happy we were competitive and were able to come through with the 4 points.

Thanks MWNN, you know your footy.:thumbsu:

In the 3rd quarter the people around me were losing it. They sounded like arrogant spoilt children in all honesty. When the guy next to me asked what on earth is happening I said Richmond are a good team and have lifted.

The Tigers deserve credit.

So do our boys for steadying.

I'd like to explain myself, seeing as some people have apparently taken direct offence to it.
Richmond were fantastic in the second half, in no way was my OP intended to be condescending.
It wasn't complacency alone, obviously the other team had to have come at us VERY hard for a 40 point swing, complacency by itself is Carlton vs GWS, complacency with a hard fighting opponent was tonight's game.

I don't see how it's disrespectful to Richmond to point out that our effort could've been greater in patches, and that this may have helped us further.

Richmond undoubtedly lifted after half time, but some of the skill errors in the third qtr did look like complacency. We also did it against GCS in the second quarter - we don't have enough talent to choose when to play well. We play well on effort and commitment, if it's not there, we're back to being an ordinary side.

Tigers played a brilliant second half which maybe took our boys by surprise (maybe some thought the job was done) and as it's been mentioned, in years gone by - we get rolled. I thougth we were a little sluggish coming out after the long break and they took advantage of that. The rally and getting the job done though was very pleasing. Great atmosphere there tonight too, very loud and manic in that last 8 or so minutes.

Even great teams can have a shit night every once in a while. We can't destroy every team every week and I wouldn't think we are going to only drop a couple of games by the season's end. An ugly win is as good as a flash one, any day of the week.

We had 12 behinds.

We could have kicked better too.

We put the foot off the pedal in the 3rd but did the quality team thing in the end by actually kicking goals to win the game back, instead of blazing away at every chance and upping our behinds tally like Richmond.

And we did it with 19 points to spare.

Why? Because that's what good sides do.

It pisses me off how Collingwood can have an off day(s) and pick up, but we're made to look like we're being kissed on the dick with "luck". To put it down to luck is an insult to the guys wearing the red and black this year.

dropping easy marks shanking easy kicks and missing easy handball got them back have to improve if we want to push for a top 6 spot

They could have too? 4.8 in the third quarter or whatever, that probably should've torn the game apart at that point.

I'll never understand this logic. The ball is returned to the centre after each goal, so what's not to say that after one of those points being a goal we wouldn't have won the clearance and scored one of our own. Those repeated attacks on their goal could not have been so rapid if any one of them had gone through.

This.

Richmond are playing very good footy and were quite good tonight and we still over with a 3 goal win, thank God Davey can kick straight ofr it might've been less at the end.

We got some good games coming up so thank your lucky stars that we are 7-1. :thumbsu:

Yet another type of test tonight, right out of the game for a long period against a plucky opponent storming home. We passed.

When Richmond got within 10 points I was saying "we'll lose this by 5 goals". That's maybe what I'm used to a bit. There seemed to be only one side on the ground. But Richmond gave us a chance to get back into it, and we took it.

We were average for long periods but so were they. You can't dominate one quarter of footy and expect to win a game.

Richmond played well no doubt but you can see we often get complacent in games when were cruising against lesser teams, very frustrating.

We don't have that hard dagger to the heart yet.
