SS11, i doubt this will work. Because they can just register, and then act like tossers!

DISAGREE

There are idiot registered posters.

There are intelligent non-registered posters.

If people don't want to register then let them be. If you don't like posts started by unregistered posters, ignore them.

Leave it the way it is.

THIS IS COLLINGWOOD ENVY REARING ITS UGLY HEAD AGAIN. IF I WEREN'T A PIE SUPPORTER YOU WOULDN'T EVEN NOTICE ME HERE.

HOW MANY BOMBER LOUDMOUTHS ARE THERE ON BIGFOOTY?

I'll agree if someone can tell me what registration will achieve. Do people magically become responsible when they register?

QT, will you delete your response to that revolting post and let it sink back into the obscurity it deserves?

It doesn't really matter anyway, because the moderators here don't seem to do anything about abusive posts.

G4E wasn't anywhere near as bad as some of the abusers we have now.

Yep i agree too many gutless bastards sneak in unregistered.

TONY SHAW KEEP IT UP MATE THE ONLY REASON WE ARE NOT LIKED IS BECAUSE WE ARE COLLINGWOOD
AS SOMEONE AS MY SELF WHO HASNT GOT MY HEAD UP MY ARSE I REALLY ENJOY YOUR POSTINGS AS FOR THE OTHER HIGH MORAL PRETEND w***erS GO AND GET STUFFED

The two posts in question which have brought about this discussion disgust me.
That said, how will compulsory registration stop such sick posts as these?
Anyone can register, and then they can keep on registering as many nom de plumes as they wish, so how does registering become a deterrent? IMO it doesn't
The only real safeguard is the recording of IP numbers, which happens regardless of registration, so if someone actually posts something illegal, they can be tracked down.
The 2 posts in question, no matter how distasteful they are, are not illegal, racial vilication is a separate issue, if someone felt strongly enough, and if they had the technical and financial resources, maybe they could mount a challenge, I have my doubts though.

One issue here which is easy to overlook, is freedom of speech and expression.
Australia is a wonderful country, with all the freedoms a person could ever want, we all appreciate that we live in such a society.
What I would find abhorrent would be an erosion of those freedoms, this means unfortunately that I sometimes have to put up with exposing myself to distasteful images, issues, writings etc.
This is part of being an adult which I readily accept, as this is my true function, to be a filter to what my children are exposed to.
If I do my job correctly, love my wife, children and rest of my family, I become a role model of worth, my decisions on what my kids are exposed to are respected by those kids, until they become old enough to accept their own responsibilities.
I hope and pray I have done my job correctly.
I also will fight within society to retain as many freedoms as possible, for when we lose just one right to choose, we all become poorer for it

So SS11, I'm sorry, but I cannot support your call for compulsory registration.
Your noble intentions in making this call do not outweigh all other considerations

AS A FORMER WEBMASTER, I CAN TELL YOU THERE IS LITTLE CHANCE OF HAVING SS PROSECUTED OR EVEN SUSPENDED BY HIS ISP, EVEN IF IT IS FOUND OUT EXACTLY WHO HE IS.

MANY PEOPLE OBJECT TO IMAGES LIKE THAT AND SOME PEOPLE ARE EVEN MADE PHYSICALLY ILL OR NAUSEOUS BY THEM SO AT THE VERY LEAST THEY SHOULD COME WITH A WARNING.

NOT TO MENTION THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOTY...

Okkkkkkk................have i missed something here??

Why the sudden debate over registering?

------------------
I was put on this Earth to complete a certain number of tasks. I am so far behind, I will never die...

Asgardian, wonderfully put. I thought we had this out with the whole Crows.ok saga. The major incentive to register is to stop people using your name to put posts up without your consent. Beyond that, there isn't a lot of advantage to it. Using an unregistered name isn't cowardly at all. It's a choice.

I don't think registering users will help, but someone suggested disabling the posting of pics on posts... is that feasible? Would anyone miss it?

I am against the idea even though morally it has some credit... as I see it... it won't change anything... I asked last year that the official Kangaroo Forum be a members only forum to stop w***ers coming into my house and sprouting shit... but that would be somewhat enforcable... this would not be a solution here though...

Yes, I'm for compulsory registration.

I agree that people can still use nom-de-plumes but it takes a couple of minutes to register which is a lot longer than the couple of seconds it takes to write an unregistered post. That means it is a disincentive. In fact if registration is done with an email address entered and a password posted to that address it makes it even better because a booted person would not only have to go to the trouble of re registering under another name but would have to set up another email account as well. It wouldn't take long for the troublemaker to get fed up with doing that and going to another forum

compularsary registerting will do nothing.
Its IP banning that will be most effective.
That way, unless, someone has such a little life they go to all the various libararys and post on BF using that, you can keep track of them.
