The point I was making is that you have all the euphoria of winning the pre-season flowing over into the season proper, maybe as a distraction. It was a point made on SEN at the start of the year with the arguement of whether winning the pre-season is a good thing or not.

Fair point, but to be honest I think clubs (not just Geelong) use it as a convenient excuse when things go wrong. Hawthorn managed to win both competitions without becoming complacent.

Mediocre...

Its hardly mediocre to be playing finals. Its been 5 years since my team was anywhere near contention and I'll tell you... its a long way from the bottom to the top. It takes a lot of patience and faith to keep going to the footy each weekend just to be rewarded with 4 or 5 wins for the year. You try and find the positives.. even from the losses.

Geelong have ended the year with a great run (like the Hawks) and although you've just missed the 8 you've got a very talented team that will be back playing finals again next year.

Good luck on Sunday. Should be a ripper of a game.

I wasn't accepting anything less than the top 4 this year (therefore we are at least 6 places behind). 5th-6th is mediocre at this stage of this team - we've had so many finishes between 5th and 12th in particular over the journey that I'm sick to death of it.

If Hawthorn had come 5th or 6th this year (or even next), that wouldn't be mediocre as they are building up. This is the second year in a row we've gone backwards. We are sick of waiting for success and watching talented sides come 6th, 8th or 10th.
