Congrats guys, knew I'd be the one writing the congratulations tonight but was kind of hoping for a little miracle and it nearly happened but sydney came out firing in the 2nd half and ran away with it in the end. It seemed we fell asleep a bit, back into some old habits and sydney woke up with improved skills after that 20 minute break.

It's crazy after so many years this somewhat 'fierce' rivalry is still strong and the endings are still unpredictable (apart from one particular game earlier this year ). Dead and Buried? I don't think so!

As much as I hate the team you support (and Adam Goodes), well played Swannies.....but hopefully we snatch the next thriller of ya It's only fair.

Yep, congratulations, very gutsy, gritty, stick to your guns win. Sets your season up well. At half time I had this feeling, accentuated at 3/4 time, that you would win in the dying minutes, don't know why? Probably because we've come to expect nothing less with the never say die attitude.

Surely you must hate us more than Freo by now?

I dunno, I think most of us would say we hate Freo in a general sense, and just hate losing to Sydney.

FWIW, I'm not particularly gutted given where we are on the ladder- you can use the four points more than we can. (And besides, the laws of the universe means we are now deadset moral certainties when we play you next year- by about half a goal )

Class guys. I know what you mean, Our clubs have built up that special, I hate you but want to you to be in the finals so we can beat you there, sort of rivalry.

The Eagles are too classy to tank even when doing badly and clubs like that breed success, lots of respect.

Hating in an open and honest yet respectful kind of way

That's a sign of a good rivalry right there. Not this "I hate you because I have too and I hate the flack we cop from your supporters" type of rivalry we have with Freo. Think that's half the reason it's so intense in terms of the crowd because when your team loses a derby - you don't want to show up to work for the next week or two.

Some amazingly gracious losers (or rather, supporters of the losing team) on this thread.

I reckon that in pretty much all of the close games between the two clubs, the marginally better team probably won. (Except in the 2005 QF.) But tonight the Swans most certainly dodged a bullet. West Coast deserved to win that game and it was probably just the inexperience of a few youngsters that cost them the win in the end.
