As much as it pains me to say it, well done Eagles. Your midfield once again proved it is all class and IMO is the third best in the comp, behind Brisbane and Adelaide. Gardiner has been the best ruckman in the league so far this season, Kerr is a premier in and under player and you have Fletcher who has stepped up to another level this season. Judd would be one of the most explosive receiving midfielders in the league with the ability to break the lines and to top it off you have the work-horse Cousins who is an inspirational leader, and whilst he may get cheap possessions they are usually in the hight twenties. Embley is much like the Headland of last year, getting under the guard of opposition clubs, playing on the wing and running forward of the play to utilise his marking ability and become a damaging player. It's a little worrying that when Hart was given the job on him last week, he wasn't so influential. Dealing with opponents/taggers is something he'll have to learn to deal with.

I didn't think Gardiner was BOG, he dominated the hitouts but Simmonds was also very effective around the ground. I'd have given the award to Fletcher, however I still believe he is unaccountable. I mean, in the first quarter he had 8 possessions whilst Bell, his direct opponent had 10 IIRC.

Once again, well done... Hopefully you'll be the ones congratulating us after round 22.

Sounds like Bell was pretty unaccountable too then, as his direct opponent had 8 posessions. I daresay Fletcher's possesions were more damaging than Bell's too, chipping around short kicks in the backline isnt terribly hurtful. Fletcher regularly is high in our tackle count, which isnt too bad for an unaccountable type

After arguing about the midfields all week Im glad that I was proven right. I never had a doubt!

I wont mind congratulating you in round 22 just as long as the Eagles are in the 8 and the Dockers have just won their 5th game of the season

Bell and Fletcher went head to head. Bell was just as unaccountable as Fletch was. But because Bell is a true back pocket, his little kicks and handpasses dont hurt the opposition. Fletcher had one less possession and kicked 3 goals to Bell's none.

You best player on the day was Bell and even he lowered his colours to his direct opponent.

I have to admit i was a bit worried when Wirrpunda pulled out before the bounce, but to their credit the boys played very well.
I thought Gardiner was BOG, although Simmonds did do quite well around the ground. Fletcher, Cus + Embley also played well and got a lot of the ball.
Chick and Sampi played their best games so far for the club - Chick did a great job on Pav and sampi was very dangerous
Banners was also very tight on Farmer and Read showed with a bit more matchfitness he might be quite a valuable player
For the Dockers, I thought Hayden and Hadrill both played well, Woods was fantastic and Bell also played a good game

I guess the argument for Gardy being BOG is that he crucified Simmonds in the first quarter creating a string of centre breaks that put the Eagles significantly in front. After that Freo were playing catch up footy which is never easy.
I have Fletcher as BOG on the day but interestingly he started with two shocking disposals straight to Freo players.
The thing about WCE is that it is a 'team' effort. I really can't pick up anyone who had a bad game although Johno was quiet for his first game. But Milli, Green, Hunter, Banfield, Jako, Kerr, Judd, Haynes etc, etc were all very good. I thought Woods, Hayden and Polak were Freo's best. Bell had posessions but few effective ones. Freo fans by us were shouting 'don't give it to Waterhouse', he really was aweful. His misses tended to deflate fellow players.
I think Freo will struggle against the Bombers as today's game will take some recovering from. WCE wont find Melbourne easy either with Judd and Kerr taking bad knocks and a few others will be sore.
But WCE are going to be one of the hardest teams Freo will face this season at Subi. I'm sure they will win the majority of the rest of their home games.

I thought the boys played really well today. Fremantle have more big name players (Farmer, Croad, Waterhouse, Bell) while we have a team of less champions, but we played very well as a team - thats what got us the 4 points at the end of the day.

Gardiner dominated in the ruck - he's come on leaps and bounds (pardon the pun) from last year and next weeks battle against Jeff White looks set to be a ripper.

Our 'no target' forward line proved once again it could kick a big score and our backline looked rock solid against Fremantle who are usually a high scoring team at home.

Our away hoodoo has been broken - bring on the Dee's and those whiney MCC members.

Back pocket? Ummm, he has been playing more forward of centre lately believe it or not. He had 7 inside 50's yesterday which was a game high along with Cousins. He only had 2 of his 28 possesions coming out from the defensive 50 so the rest of his possesions were in the midfield. If it wasn't for Bell, we would have lost by 10+ goals.

IMO, the third quarter from us was good. We were challenged and we stood up and fought back! Thats the sort of footy we want to be playing, when we can be challenged and not do a Hawthorn and climb into a shell and hide!
Overall a very good performance!

I was worried at half time that the Dockers would make their comeback and sure enough, they did in the 3rd quarter.

Full credit to our boys that fought back and kept the pressure up to win.

And nice to see some decent comments by the Freo supporters, bad luck fellas
