Full marks for Connolly to expose Worsfold's tactics of playing man on man over the field. By playing just 4 up front and 7/8 in defence it left our forward line with a lot more space to create and charge into and their forward line had no idea.

Worsfold really struggles for a plan B when things don't go well but the bloke at the helm gets the accolades and so well done CC.

We were smashed all over the ground today. Glass had a good game on Pavlich, but in the centre we were beaten too often, up forward the ball was cleared way too easily, and then chipped uncontestedly to the forward line. Very poor performance overall.

That game was only played for the first half, the margin ws irrelevant really. The normaly eagles would have run that out and lost by nearer to 30 points than 60 points.

Sitting in the sun at the Perth end of the ground during the last quarter was no fun at all. I was expecting to see a few more goals but then the penny dropped. The tactic of playing keep-it-off in the shade in the toast's half, at the Subi end was a master stroke. It helped our players from playing in the sun and peeved the toast mob off tiil they were bursting. Great work CC. :thumbsu:

I have to agree. Some injuries didn't help but we were forced into some very strange match-ups EG Brett Jones on Headland. Hopefully if we play again we won't be caught out like that.

Judgey on 720 said that there were seven pairs in WC forward line and Woosh get sucked into that every time because he want to man everybody up.

Am sure that someone mentioned on radio in the week that Connolly would go with that and he fancied to come out on top in that setup. Why would Worsfold persist ??

Woosh only has three tricks.

i: throw fresh midfielders on repeatedly until the other teams tire.
ii: Chuck Hunter forward when you need a goal.
iii: Chuck Wirra forward when ii: doesn't work.

Mick Malthouse said this of Woosha a few years back......"John can be a little self centered"...Does this answer your question....

Woosha has played the "lets crowd up our crap forward line to stop the spare man" idea every game we've played them this year (inc the pre-season one).

It only works if their midfield smashes us and can blast through the crowded forward line. Almost worked in Rd 6, failed miserably in the other two games.

I think he needs a plan B.

Yes the crowded forward line was very predictable. I think the ball is in JW's court, CC does not need to change a thing the next time they meet. Its up to JW to come up with plan B.

Connolly has done Woosha over twice this season and kudos to him for that.
He certainly has no need to fear West Coast.

3 Times if you include the pre-season.

I like how everyone expects Worsfold to unveil all of his plans/strategies on a game that pales in significance to a finals match. I wouldnt be surprised if he was holding back.

Surely he would of tried one last year in the grand final. Or was he keeping his cards close to his chest, saving it for this year.

Tricks = Wirrpunda forward, Hunter forward, Chick forward.

If he is stubborn enough to persist with man on man footy, even when its destroying his structure, he becomes his own worst enemy.

Good Coach Connolly glad some of us had the intestinal fortitude to keep the faith. Onwards Chris to greater things!

I almost felt sorry for Judd yesterday when I saw him being tagged by Parker. But how good is that for a move. Who would have thought CC would take that as option. Means he now has full faith in our other defense players. I'd expect now he has made the move once we might see Shane running as a shut down player more often.

god here comes the feeble attempt to down play a huge loss like this.

Top spot could be gone if you loose to richmond big and crows beat demons big.

We had a discussion earlier in the year (I think -- might have been last year) that if you can shut down the Eagles midfield you can shut down the Eagles entirely. But as Carny pointed out, quite rightly, was a bloody difficult thing to do. That's what their game plan revolves around and it makes sense because its their strength.

So I don't know you can call Woosha a poor coach when his players are getting flogged all over the ground. CC would be the first to tell you that the game plan goes out the wiondow when you can't win the ball.

What I do know is the gdmclean is a cretin.
