******* dawk claims corey deserved to get traded as he will drop off
lol

we are officially totally written off, this will be our best year ever, no pressure

Cut Dermie some slack, his brain has rotted after all those years of sniffing and dealing coke at the Lyric nightclub. The poor bloke probably still thinks he's living in the 80's.

It amazes me that so many are prepared to write off Geelong, when six months ago we were premiers. Every time we lose a game this year the "experts" will say, "more proof the Cats are on the slide"

It equally amazes me that the Bulldogs are such raging favouristes when the average age of its key forwards is over 30.

Well, I don't understand how we were premiers when everyone said it was going to be a Collingwood/Saints Grand Final.

The media backs the form teams and get sick of covering the same team for too long it seems, supporters and affiliates of other clubs develop severe tall poppy syndrome, mostly attributed to their team getting repeatedly smashed by us for the last three years.

In Regard to people having you guys on the slide: id say it has something to do with teams generally finding it hard to stay top 2 for 4years in a row, your coming into the year that essendon had in 2001. lions & port had in 2004 where its starting to get a lot harder to stay at the top, but if you can manage injuries in the same fashion as last year where you planned how you were going to make the grand final in july (i think) there is no reason you can't make another grand final!! and if your there you definately know how to win them!

oh and i never listen to anything dermie says, its either the bleeding obvious that everyone already knows or utter crap.

you obviously didn't listen properly

he said corey won't get any faster and injuries and that age onwards are a worry the same with milburn. He did agree that coreys work eithic when he hasn't got the ball is amazing.

he said that geelong deserve equal favouritism for the premiership... you might want to listen up next time!!!

Yeah you are right.

It's the old "what goes up must come down" view. As opposed to the "what goes down must come up" view that people have for teams like Carlton.

Someone once said at least Billy Brownless knows he isn't the smartest guy around, sad thing is Dermie thinks he is the know-all.

The guts of the discussion IMO was the choices a club like GFC had to consider ; Do they trade of a player like Corey or Enright who will not get any better, who when they drop off will probably be a quick slider , making observations on their lack of pace. In essence get a pick for them while they are worth something. It may mean not making the GF but one might get a ten year player out of it.

DB basically agreed with Geelongs approach of sticking with its players , going for another flag but warned that due to this when this group drops off Geelong may dramatically drop.

I believe Robertson brought up Ablett & Bartel being 25 and Selwood being 22.

he started to back track when challenged

but said he believed corey was on the slide, and basically was the weak link in the gfc midfield

he also said if corey lost a little pace would be gone

the comments about enright showed how inept he was

enright had his best year last year

In the first 16 or so weeks of season 2009 I was a consistent knocker of Corey.
He looked slow and just didn't seem to have the impact of previous years.

It is quite obvious now that his impact was due to where he had to play. Down back.

When he was released he showed he can still do damage.

It will be interesting to see what the cats do this year with regards to the backline setup. But I have a feeling that they will allow Corey to free wheel.

Many have suggested that Kelly will be cut free this year, but I think the 1st one to be released is Corey.

And if that happens, Derm will be proven wrong in no uncertain terms.

If Corey is the weak link in our MF we're in pretty good shape.
He should direct his thoughts on ageing teams to either the entire Bulldogs' forward line, or perhaps Riewoldt's knees? Is Lenny hayes getting any younger?
Is there an upside to Koshitski?

What a draft selection was Corey (and Enright). They took a little time to find their feet at Geelong - but they have been champions of the club - and until recently not given the credit they deserve by the AFL public.

The fact that Joel Corey has 2 B & Fs at the Cattery (I think that is correct) - is testament to how good he has been for the club - and how the club views his performances in the roles they have asked him to play.

And yes he may slow down a bit as he ages - so what ? I wouldn't call Selwood fast. You gotta get the ball first - then speed can be an asset.

I remember Greg Williams ripping us apart in the 1995 GF - and he never had leg speed. Quick hands, excellent ball getter and handballer, combined with great judgment. The game has changed a bit from then - but not everybody has to be fast to be good.

Bruce Doull in his later years was not that fast but his superb judgment kept him an effective player in the game for many years (as Enright I believe will also show).

A footballer needs a number of skills to be a good footballer - and sometimes these good footballers do not have leg speed but they are nonetheless effective.

Geelong would have done a lot of damage to the side if they had traded Joel Corey. Vice captain, senior player, 2 time B & F - and still playing well enough to be in our first 22. What would others in the side think as they grew older, no matter how good a servant of the club, if players like Corey get traded while they are still worth something in the market ? Sometimes you need to look at the whole or bigger picture.

If you want players to be loyal, the club also has to show a similar disposition to their players - especially long serving champions of the club - such as Corey.

Get rid of / trade Corey - poppycock !

He also said today geelong are a certainty for top 2, have all the experience you could want and know what it takes to get the job done.

He's such a dropkick saying something as absurd as that, he's just a thorn in the side of all opposition teams.
A fast, athletic 191cm onballer, no wonder his wishful thinking is to talk him down.

To bad Dermott.

Corey is still a gun! And as has been mentioned will be noticed much more this year when he is allowed to run free. He was really damaging against the Pies on the forward flank and I can see this happening more and more the older he gets and the better Varcoe gets at going into the midfield.

i reckon Joel Corey brings a real toughness to the team. something Dermie has overlooked no doubt. Corey is tougher than Max Rooke in my opinion. Rooke sustains injuries. Corey is always up & running.

he hits hard. and he gets hit hard too. it always amazes me to see him dust himself down after a bone-jaring collision & then be on his feet within seconds.

this guy has taken more physical punishment than any other Geelong player over the past 3 years.

you just watch his inside efforts plus his tackling. yet, after all the physical stuff over the first 3 quarters of a game, Corey seems to hit overdrive in the last quarter & runs amock. a bit like "rope-a-dope".

this guy has got guts & stamina. mr. tough guy no. 1

Interesting to note how many people are suggestig our drop off will come because of our age..who in our side will drop off becuase off age..Milburn..Mooney perhaps..who else? That argument seems pretty futile given thatg just about all of our core and gun players fall between 25-29 which i wouldve thought is pretty much in the prime of their careers. The question in my opinion will be how much do the players want it?? can they be mentally strong enough to go through another full campaign..i sure hope so but age is irrelevant. Like an earlier poster mentioned..look at the bulldogs now 'complete' forward line. Johnson is just about shot and Barry is in the thirties comfortably..

Look, I don't think that we should listen to what people outside are club say - they have no idea whats going on and is Dermie qualified to analyse our side anyway ? I never can really understand what dermie bangs on about half the time it's all bla bla to me. Anyway, I went down to training last thursday and the catters looked quick, fit and had a good two hour session, Tommahawk looked awesome kicked a goal bout 60metres out and stevie j was cutting up the field. They looked hot, you train as you play i say, and would be suprised it they don't knock off the bombers!
Here's to a good season!

Corey is a gun simple as that.
He will probably move into Milburns position after Dasher retires.
But he aint slowing at all.

The only reason we are seen as vulnerable is wishful thinking and fear.
Our window is wide open. More so than last year.
People often reference the Lions as having been at the top for 4 years, but they peaked much later than us as a group. They were, in terms of age, pretty much where we are now when they began their 4 year run.
Ours is about to begin.
Enjoy.
