So it's not that funny how particular teams are coming out so passionately demanding the season be voided? It's funny how self interest might be influencing the opinions of players, officials and supporters from all clubs from the top to the bottom.

Personally I find it funny how people are trying to invalidate the concerns people have about their safety and the safety of their families by continually inferring that they have those concerns because of the position their football club is on the ladder.

It's funny that clubs are being so transparently self-invested, yes. If clubs want to speak in their self-interests they should own it instead of hiding behind the pretence of nobility, like Hull are doing. Tammy Abraham for instance, is speaking with genuine concern.

I guess we're all just standing here splitting our sides then.

Tammy doesnt sound as dead against it as the bottom guys, just wary...

"If the Premier League does come back, I don't know what I'd do but the hotel could be an option; to self-isolate away from my family," Abraham added.

"I've got my dad's full support for going back. He just wants me to go back. He's one of my biggest fans.

"As players, we've just got to be patient and wait for the clubs, the Premier League and the Government to come to a decision about whether it's safe for us to do so. We'll take it on from there."

And that's what it comes down to. The Government and health officials giving the green light. Until then, all this noise from clubs isn't doing any good one way or the other.

I'm genuinely interested to hear who you think isn't speaking out of genuine concern.

Maybe players from bottom six clubs are exempt from having genuine concerns about their health and the health of their families?

I think it's interesting that you're being so naive about club motivations to start or void the season.

At this stage, as I said, it's all just noise from the clubs. They should listen to health officials, government officials, and follow that advice.

I'm well aware that self interest is a factor in the thinking of most clubs. I've been saying that from the outset, but what I don't accept is these suggestions that it's just the bottom clubs that are acting out of self interest.

And I think when a player from a bottom club comes out with concerns about his safety and the safety of his family it should be listened to, not written off as "he just doesn't want to get relegated"

At this stage, as I said, it's all just noise from the clubs. They should listen to health officials, government officials, and follow that advice.

They should do what's best for them and their families. If they are satisfied that the measures in place are acceptable, then fine. If not, I support anyone that chooses not to participate.

I definitely think China was far too slow to react to it and had they reacted sooner and better than this would have turned out better. But at the same time, the potential threat of this virus globally could be seen by late January/early Feb, at which point most governments around the world started to take it seriously. it took until mid March for Trump/US to stop treating it as a hoax that was being overblown

everything is partisan whataboutisms in the US, and both sides are as bad as each other. Dr Fauci himself was downplaying the impact to start. NY heirachy and Pelosi we’re doing their best to tell everyone life was normal, we are America ra-ra-ra, go about life as normal on both coasts of the nation too. Yes Trump does talk gibberish, but he’s also handed childish loaded questions designed to make him say stupid shit too.

I never for a minute suggested that it was only the bottom clubs acting and speaking out of self-interest. My only comments regarding the distinction is that the bottom club's motivations are going to impact the structure of the league next year. You'll note the FA have indicated that relegation will be part of any solution, and the demands of those bottom clubs have been ignored - as I thought they should be.

That doesn't mean that Liverpool/United/City have no self-interest or dog in the race, but their motivations don't impact the league structure, so by their nature aren't being listened to or ignored in the same way the bottom clubs demands are.

The league needs to make an informed decision based on medical and governmental advice. I don't really think club demands should be listened to on any level quite frankly.

Individual players would surely not be forced to play any game they don't want to play, any players with individual family circumstances would of course not need to play. No different to clubs allowing clubs personal leave when necessary.

Was he asked whether he thought injecting disinfectant could work as a cure? Or ingesting bleach? I'm actually asking as I'm not sure if those comments are what you're referring to.

It would be ridiculous to have rules that require a 75% majority to pass if you're just going to disregard the opinions of 30% of the voters.

I'd rather hear more from the clubs. Let each of them set out their position publicly, rather than leak it to the press.

By all means, but I would rather they said "We don't want relegation to be considered because we're currently in the relegation places and this has impacted on our ability to complete the season." rather than hiding behind medical reasons. If they said the former, I would find any comments on the latter more sincere.

You may well be right and they could be genuine in their concerns about health and safety, but it comes across incredibly phony in the current delivery.

Interesting that Villa will have two players unavailable for any restart.

No doubt that was the dumbest take so far, but from what I’ve read and seen, and I’m not a scientist si not 100% sure, there are actual studies involving the use of UV light treatment under skin. It appeared Trump had some idea of something he heard, but didn’t understand, and just rambled as a result. I think the disinfectant thing was particularly poorly worded, but then the media seemed to paraphrase it to drinking bleach and gargling Lysol.

definitely dumb stuff to say though, or at least dumb to say it was a joke the next day...

He's no doubt under ridiculous pressure, but seems as if he's losing his mind. Read an article the other day about his daily schedule and it just sounds crazy. He's watching far too much media and second- and triple-guessing everything he's saying. Should just stay away from the daily briefings but I'm not sure his ego will allow it.

‘yeah, but it’s a no-win situation. If he does the briefing, it gives the likes of CNN their soundbites, and reason to bash him, and if he doesn’t hold them, it gives the likes of CNN the reason to complain he’s hiding.

watch this If you genuinely want to see a different view.

fwiw, here was the original video...

Of course players from the bottom club's will be the loudest. They're putting themselves and families at risk, just go back and put their club's safety in the division at risk in a watered down league format. Nothing wrong with self interest.

Just like players from club's who could win trophies or qualify for tournaments that may or may not go ahead will be quieter on the matter.

Not dismissing the good gesture by Harry Kane at all but it just shows the gulf in football finances. Kane got shirt sponsorship for a London based League Two club for 100k a year which is slightly above market rate. But that is still roughly half his weekly wage. Would be good to see more top division players giving back to club's they played at whether on loan or in the academy

Trying to shift the blame onto China for the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic makes about as much sense as blaming the Congo for HIV, or Australia for the Brisbane strain of influenza that spread around the world last year, or any of the countless virus mutations and zoonotic spillover events that occur every year.

Were there public health failures and under reporting of cases in China? Probably, as there were in many countries, including the US.

Does that mean Trump can absolve himself of any responsibility for his administration’s failures and flaws in the American health system exposed by this virus? It’s a ridiculous argument being spun solely to improve his re-election chances, seemingly his sole agenda at present. I’m amazed so many have fallen for it. Then again maybe I’m not.

Precisely why when all this started I was suggesting that PL clubs should be supporting lower league local clubs.

i seem to remember during the bury saga that the was something mentioned somewhere saying that lower league clubs were able to get direct support from higher league clubs. for some reason that has been sitting on my brain, or i've made it up. i cant remember.

Players more than clubs. Technically these PL clubs are still in competitions against lower league clubs and they aren't feeder relationships between them. But wouldn't be that hard for every PL player to donate 5% of their weekly wage back to the club they made their first league start for
