I lived and worked in Scotland and while we have a shared love on getting hammered, culturally there's lots of differences.

For example religious conflict is a real issue there, even if only "on the surface", they are very much prisoners of their history, on an individual and communal level.

Where you are born decides your future to a great deal in Scotland, it has real class divisions we don't have. Your accent marks you out in Scotland big time, in a way we don't have here.

It is also a very insular and white society.

Culturally we are far closer to the US in that we're an immigrant society, we are a far more upwardly mobile society, we have far less defined class divisions.

I reckon USA has worse class divisions!

On paper, with the immigrant factor, you would think we are more similar to USA, but modern Scotland has plenty of immigrants, and it is more about the scotts passion for sport, the system of government and powerful belief in fairness/equality, that makes it more similar to Australia.

I reckon you and i must have had a similar working holiday tour in uk. I spent 12 months in Glasgow. I found that town to be very similar to Melbourne in style and attitude, more than any other city i have lived in, even in Australia.

Announced they are coming back to play on May 28. Channel 9 absolutely ripped them a new one in response. You would almost think Channel 9 are looking to tear up the contract.

I'm thinking it won't be just NRL. Free to air TV is a slowly sinking ship and pay-TV is not too far behind them. Sport needs to figure out what the future distribution model looks like.

They could do it. But it would require very careful management and some gov support.

NRL has poor crowds. I think the Giants average better attendance's, if not its close.

They are a TV game. They could play the game in locked stadiums and it wouldn't seem that different.

And this is about SoO. They might just play enough to get a good basis for selection , have SoO and can the rest of the season.
