If the Liberal only have a 1 vote advantage in the new parliament then Cory will have every opportunity to flex his 'conservative' muscles. What bet he sticks with just whingeing in the media?

The fact he is so high on the Senate ticket is either because he scares the Libs in terms of possibly going it alone, or - more likely - because they know that his media chatter keeps a bunch of people happy that their views are the 'real' views of the Liberals, if only PC police blah blah blah...

The senate represent the real views of the party and they dont need to be popular to win if they are top off the ticket.

Was knocked down to #2 on the ticket this time and some inside the party wanted him further down than that because he is now being seen as a liability to the party.

My only real problem with this would be that I think good government means we need to change the party in power every now and then in order to reduce corruption and remind them that they're supposed to serve the people.
