Why, do they have labor and union as synonyms?
A 'union' of companies or a 'union' of business owners is called an 'industry lobby' or 'business lobby'. A Union is where things unite or come together by association. Hence "reunion" - bringing people or things back together again who were previously together.

Yeah, but I was trying to be succinct, and calling the ALP the 'Australian Labor Union Leaders Party' is a bit long winded.

.......... So maybe call it Australian Labor Party?

And for those who aren't aware, the reason it is spelt Labor, and not Labour, is so that the political movement could easily be discerned from other labour/union movements who may disagree with Labor.

Surprised Bernardi is using the word 'conservative' seems like a discredited brand.

None of the smaller conservative-ish parties have that in their identity

More surprised he is using the word Australian, since the conservative values he stand for aren't really Australian.

Yeah he really is a village idiot.

How about investigating the youth unemployment problem like a mature educated middle aged adult rather than a petulant fat man with no idea how the business world works with regards to taking on staff and the current job market.

And here he is again getting it wrong once more. He needs to get a real job but who would employ him? Murdoch?

In his own post Christensen added the statement: “In a world gone mad, it took less than 48 hours for my admittedly incorrect remarks regarding the Merrylands police station attack to become valid in wake of commentary by the political and media elite on the Munich attack.”

Why is it young backpackers from overseas can find work here but young Australians can't.

Because the BP are touring around with a back pack on. They have money to get here & for transport. They dont have rented accommodation contracts, or live at home with no money to get about with.
Stupid Eric Abetz criticised youth for not going to pick fruit here until he was told the actual facts. Then he shut up real quick.
The problem with the dole is that it keeps people at less than a subsistence level of income. If one does get some paid work, they lose a huge percentage of it off the dole so it represents a massive penalty. Its called a poverty trap.
Its a pity when the nasty right of politics dont see the problem. They'd rather vilify people for base political reasons than actually solve a situation..

He is a fat slug with jowls & a double chin. He should be the one going back packing & picking fruit to get some lard off.

I was at a pub last night and 3 of the bar staff were backpackers, why aren't aussies doing those jobs?

Backpackers often have a visa that says if they work in the regions they can stay an extra year. They aren't paid well for this, as the Visa extension is considered the main incentive. Employers also like backpackers on work visas as they won't move on because they need to be employed to be allowed to stay in the country.

Backpackers in bars makes a lot of sense for employers as they're often young and like to party, which fits with the image a bar wants to sell in order to have a lot of drinks be purchased. An employer also tends to like attractive staff to encourage people to drink there. An exotic background can make someone seem more exotic/attractive. Backpackers also often stay in accommodation near the streets which have the bars. Go outside those areas and you'll find most bar staff are locals.

Construction sites around Perth have a lot of over seas workers as well, I guess they like attractive staff to.

edit: Workers must be able to pass a random drug test, thats a killer for our dole bludgers.

I know you are a sock puppet account trying to spruik for your beliefs, but if you frame things as an honest question, I'll give you an honest answer.

If you hate immigration, just say so. It isn't clever to point out Australia has immigrants. We're an immigrant nation. Business wants immigrants and they have a lot of sway due to their key role in generating revenue for society (citizens and govt).
