sock puppet account???
This thread isn't about immigration is it? I thought I was responding to this.
I thought the article was about un employment being cut after 6 months.
But if you want to discuss overseas persons working here there is another thread about visas, check it out or better still ask the LNP about all those changes they have made to 457 visas.

Something got lost in translation. I was pointing out that some of our own youth don't want to do certain jobs and others can't pass a drug test so that makes them unemployable.

You know this how? Source or link so I can see this so.

Some people I went to school with think the dole is a life style choice, do the odd cash job, smoke lots of weed, I'm sure you know type.

Nope, I don't, you are telling the story. What about some objective source?

So you penalise the needy to have a go at 1% of the long term unemployed. Dumb economics and will cost society far more, but I guess you like beggers hassling you and a rise in the crime rate.

Some problems are just way too complex for some to get on their high horse about.

There is really no point trying to reason with these idiots. Dead end job employers don't just gift jobs to locals who really want to work for them. Many factors play a part in that.

Im pleased your not profiling.
l know some on the dole. They want to work but a lot of manufacturing jobs have gone overseas. Also forestry has become more mechanised.
We cant all get office jobs.
And yes some grow up in generational situations.
What do we do with them?

there are far far more people looking for work than jobs , if a small minority chose longterm poverty, it just allows some other unemployed person to get a job,

so what is the point you are trying to make?

If it's so hard to get a job, how do all these back packers find work?
The only people I know with out a job are those who cant hold a job is because of appearance, work ethic, cant pass a drug test.

Some people can't comprehend that not everyone falls into a neat little box ie all people on New Start are dole bludging potheads, all Muslims are radical fundamentalist terrorists etc.

As Atticus Finch of To Kill a Mockingbird said: "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-until you climb in his skin and walk around in it".

It seems that most people railing on New Start recipients are only considering their own personal point of view: "Well I didn't find it difficult to get a job so why can't they".

This thought process ignores the fact that a certain level of unemployment is a structural consequence of capitalism. You will never get full employment in a market economy. So unfortunately some people, regardless of intention or drive, will be left without employment because the opportunities just aren't there. Like a game of musical chairs, someone is eventually going to be left without a chair.

Here are some figures (from 2014) that show that there are more people looking for work than there are jobs. In May 2014 there were just over 720, 000 people unemployed (doesn't count the 920, 000 underemployed) and only 146, 000 job vacancies. I know that George Christensen, Eric Abetz, Cory Bernardi and Co. aren't particularly bright but even they should be able to do the math on that.

I believe their response to that is why don't they just up and leave their family and friends and go where there is work. While at the same time saying that business can't afford to offer new jobs because paying people is too expensive. The fact these two perspectives fly in the face of their 'family first' conservatism, and the idea of rewarding hard work with decent pay - that's lost on them.

BOO FRIGGIN HOO!!!
I spent two years of my life in Port Headland and hated every minute of it away from my family and friends, but thats what you do if you have a goal you want, a chance to set myself up financially.

Can any one here imagine working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week in stinking hot oppressive conditions for 4 weeks and then having 1 week off to maintain a relationship? Please don't tell me sitting back collecting the dole is tough.

Are they Cory's working hours?

Exactly. That scenario is unrealistic for most people, unless they can up and leave their relationships (and afford the tickets). It would cause huge strain to the 'nuclear family' ideal conservatives like to encourage (family values, the importance of community, how social change can be detrimental, etc).

So companies had to offer huge sums of money to compensate for this, and when people like Rinehart complained that she couldn't pay workers $2/day, she received sympathetic support from the same sorts of conservatives who like the idea of dropping the minimum wage.

Regardless, even if every dole recipient was willing to uproot their lives and move to find work. The basic maths suggest their just isnt the jobs to accomodate them.

Do you still believe it is fair that they should have their benefits cut off?

Been doing it for almost 30 years, you?

What a piece of work. Unsurprising though.

Poor Cory Bernardi. The conservative, anti-marriage equality Senator just marked his 20th wedding anniversary all alone and far from home, in New York where he's flying the flag at the United Nations for what he's described as "common sense".

Clearly feeling a little sorry for himself, Bernardi turned to Twitter to cheer himself up the only way he knows how: By trolling LGBT people who are fighting for the right to celebrate any wedding anniversary at all.

Stay in the US with your extreme right wing mates, Corey.

Sherb it is easy to jump on kwikfix for his comment but standing back, many Australians don't appreciate that you often have to do it tough for a while to build a strong foundation.

sure not everyone has that opportunity (or capability) but many don't appreciate the value of hard work and then complain about life.
