Cotchin off half-back?

OK - pinching this sorta from Hoos from the best 22 thread, but got me thinking and would welcome thoughts...

With Prestia and Caddy and Graham joining the club and the mooted shift of Vlastuin into the middle, if not this year then perhaps from next year would Cotchin suit a 'generals' role across half back along the lines of what Hodge does at Hawthorn?

Certainly would be a cool head and would make good decisions under pressure and swinging the ball forward.

Sure we would be stealing his mid-field skills but as we have bolstered that area now and we wont be needing his sometimes iffy goal-kicking output up forward with this years draftees + Martin resting down there.

I'm not totally convinced but if I close my eyes I can sorta see it.

Thoughts?

Suffering shrinkage here fella's!
Are the no's because we have better options at half-back or because we are robbing our middle too much?

I'd give it a try. I'd still have him playing mainly on the ball, but instead of pushing forward, have him go back to help out our, let's face it, dodgy defence. Couldn't hurt. Might work.

The more contests that contain our best players the more contests we will win. And winning the contest is still the most important aspect of modern footy IMO.

true but not all contests occur in the guts and having martin forward, cotchin back, and prestia, caddy, vlas in the guts gives us a contest all over the park...

don't mind it

Robs the midfield too much.

Prestia needs to play a full season again.
Caddy with a permanent midfield role needs to take his game up another notch.
Vlastuin isnt proven in the guts.
Graham is in his first year.

Noooo - Imagine Cotchin with his dinky little kicks being turned over offour backline.

Hold on thats what Handbrake likes.

edit - this in no way says Cotchin isn't a great player, but I am sure most would agree he has a tendency to do those dinky little chip kicks, lacks penetration for mine.

he does those to bring other players into the game, especially when nothing is open forward so that he can try to open something up himself if need be.

It's an indictment on the team moreso than him that he has a tendency to do that

It's a no for me , let's see , take a Brownlow medalast, contested ball winning beast and turn him into a dime a doz HBF . May not be the stupidest idea I've ever heard but definitely top 3

well we are going to take a guy that just had a career best season playing in the guts and move him forward ~ Martin

we took a Coleman medalist and moved him to CHF in Jack

don't think it can't happen

Very true Tango ... precedent set.
Me, I can see handbrake Hardwick doing it ... we all know how obsessed he is with the ha;lf back flank.
But I think it would have disaster written all over it.
He's too poor a disposer of the ball and his kicking far from hurts you.
