Easy question .. a lot of mixed opinions on this forum.

I would argue its bloody hard to shine with players like Lids, martin playing alongside you.

Easy to praise a player who is surrounded by crap or inexperienced

Dangerfeild surrounded by crap .... Gary surrounded by inexperience

Thats my opinon .. what do you guys think?

Cotchin 2013 or cotchin 2012?

Probably rated about right. Will soon be underrated if his lean patch continues. Can't wait for him to recapture last years form in the next few weeks as we really push towards that top 4 spot! :thumbsu:

When he's 100% fit he's an absolute gun, and rated accordingly.
When he's not at 100%, which I believe currently to be the case, an outsider would claim he is overrated.

yeah i would agree with this ... would be interesting to see if he is 100% but just in a bit of bad form (his bad form is somes best)

He's now a worse kick than Nick Gill if you believe the main board and Dyson Heppell is now a better inside mid.

Seriously though he's managed about 26 touches and 5 clearances a game while carrying an injury and we're talking about how poor he's been. He's underated at the moment. He was exceptional up until the halfway through the Freo game when it happened.

Obviously he hasn't played to last years standard but he's still been bloody good.

You know what is really scary, Cotch and Lids both have not been as prolific as last year, yet both are still playing well (I think Lids moreso), so imagine if the team can still perform to the level they have been AND Cotch and Lids start to turn it on ever more! Wow!

I am just waiting for Cotchin to turn it on 2012 style and get back to his best. I have a big feeling it's going to happen Saturday night and then he will perform accordingly from then onwards.

For some reason he seems to be rushing a lot of his disposal... will be back to the Cotch of 2012 once he sorts this out.

In the absence of Tuck and Conca, Cotch is having to do a lot of the midfield grunt work himself. It says volumes for him that he is such a champion that he can do this so selflessly.
Once Tuck comes back and once Conca can lift his game to the level that Tuck has delivered for three years, then Cotchin will go back to being more outside and damaging.
So, in light of the original question, my answer is most definitely underrated. Even more so now than last year because of what he is being forced to do and still doing it so well.
Tell me how many other premier midfielders in the league have such an extraordinary outside AND inside game?
Underrated for sure.

Very good core strength. Required when you have to play footy with a tagger strapped to your back.
I reckon his knee is not great but numbers are definitely down due to additional inside work as mentioned by tugga.
Would love to see him relieved a bit of the inside work. Remember those 1v1 grabs he was taking last year up forward. I'd like to see a bit of that next couple of weeks.

Just needs to cut loose this week against the dogs like late last year to get some form.

He doesn't look 100%, just doesn't cover the ground as much like last year.

Agree with Tugga's assessment. Cotch gave a us a reminder of his class with that first goal on the weekend. It wasn't overly difficult but he was so calm in slotting it on his left.

When he's 100% fit he's an absolute gun, and rated accordingly.
When he's not at 100%, which I believe currently to be the case, an outsider would claim he is overrated.

Excuses excuses, overrated!

Cotchin not 100%, Maric playing with an injury!

Whatever people!
