I really, really doubt that if in the instance that Thornton leaves the club (which is still debatable despite reports from SEN), Gibbs wont be chosen at Pick 1, but do you think that it could add an element of doubt in the minds of Dennis Pagan and Wayne Hughes?

Depends what we get for him really. I'd imagine that there will be a few clubs willing to see what we want for him beside the Hawks as well.

Hmmm you could be right. Would really like to have Gibbs, perhaps we could go hard for Hawthorns first round pick and pray the Hansen makes it to 6-7, probably will be picked up before then but. :(

If, in an ideal world that happened, I'd pray that Leuenberger was available. Doubt he will make it out of the top 5 given the media interest in him, but you'd be hoping.

If we got Hawthorns second rounder we would probably go for Nathan Brown as a replacement for Thornton. It probably won't effect our no. 1 pick though.

I think somehow the club would be chasing Polak quite heavily now.

Livingston knows he's potentially gone, but if the club offers him minimal money on a one year contract it could be worth a punt.

If Thornton leaves it's another Hamill situation again, mercenary!

Should request a pick between 15 and 20. Considering Carlton and Essendon have 4 of these not sure where they will effect the trade.

May have to settle with pick 24, which will get us Renouf or N.Brown.

A 22 year old key defender who is consistent and reliable is certianly worth this currency.

Its all crap about him being a 3rd tall back. He has been Carlton's 1st tall since he started and he will be Hawthorns 1 tall.

When you look at where Ted Richards was traded, Thornton has more currency at the same stage.

Unlikely but maybe we could get Laycock + pick 20 from Essedon or pick 24 + Baily from Hawthorn. That would be a fair deal but an unlikely one. If the Hawks take Luenberger then they still have 3 ruckman on their list.

On the AFL website. Thornton has quit Blues. Not over money, as Blues have offered him compareable to Hawks, but wants to make a fresh start.
Disappointing.

It's a sad day...I remember when no one would leave the club willingly.
Still we need to build a team, and if you don't want to be part of it,then dont let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Agree and hope!!

Like Campo... Thornton to me is now dead!

Damm straight JJ. I cannot stomach a player that doesn't want to play for the navy jumper. I wouldn't give a ***** if he was Judd. If you want to piss off then piss off.

Campo and Hamill chased the money and premiership dream. Both have forsaken they champion status at Blues. You can join that club Thornton you rat.

Back to the topic.......(rat).........
with the emergence of Carlos, Bower will get a full run - Saddington to return from injury........Lance down back......are we any worse off than at the first half of last year (No Carlos or Bower)?
It shouldn't affect the national draft no.1 or 2 pick for us, maybe looking at a project player (Brown?) later in the draft.....and yes, making a huge play for Polak now.

Be careful with those knees T-Bird.......oh by the way, the nickname stays.....your just Bret now, along with Scott and Aaron Traitors).

what do you guys reckon about this deal we get pick 6 dawthorn get thornton and 4th round pick. i hope we go for polak really hard now

If we somehow get Pick 6 it will strengthen the case for Gibbs at 1. Due to use knowing that we can get a decent KPP at Pick 6 (probably Leunburger).
