Countdown Clock

Stupid idea. Could never get the feeling I had in the dying seconds of our comeback win against the Bombers in 07. The last few minutes were all the more special as myself and everyone around me were murmuring: "how much time is left!"

Scenario, first quarter 15 seconds left and Fevola lining up from 60 metres but sees eddie Betts on a good lead up the corridor or to the pocket....what do you do

Also streaming of half back with 15 seconds left... what do you do go wide and run down the clock or drive it to a 1 on 1 contest inside 50 in case we get a mark, crumb or better yet a free kick from a panicked defender.

Deliberate out of bounds paid in forward pocket 40 out and theres only 8 seconds left... what do you do have a set shot bannana after the 1/4 time bell or chip it backwards outside 50 looking to square it up and the siren sounds whilst doing this or you play on and run around from the boundary line only to have the siren sound on you??

The countdown clock could add another dimension to footy smarts and clock management and make our game even more professional whilst potentially adding some great highlights!

I really don't think it will be much different, players will chip regardless and most of the time they hear from the bench how long is left. We don't (unless someone has a radio!) and that's the suspense.

The most well known close game is the 99 Prelim. I'm sure I was close to cardiac arrest but I'm so glad I didn't know how long to go. I'm sure I remember some old lady with her 'wireless' discussing time left but the mumbing around the ground made it more exciting.

Boo you AFL stop stuffing around with the game...

I think a CC is a great idea. It will be like the New Year's countdown every game, only it will be for another Carlton victory.

Also, it will help get people involved in the game, albeit right at the end. I've always found AFL crowds to be too dispassionate.

A ****ing countdown clock

It's the Final Countdown

Doo doo doo dooo

Time keeps on tickin, tickin, tickin..........into tha future....

It was always going to happen as will a lot of other things.
Some, we will like and some we will not.
Either way the integrity of our game will not change.

Here are two rules that will change in the future and will cause a lot more debate than a bloody clock:

1. We will reduce our on field personnel to 16 a side, with more interchange players allowed.

2. Last to touch the ball before it going over the line will be penalised a free

1 I can see, it will reduce flooding, reduce injury and fatigue of players and eventually salary caps may also come down if the recession lasts a long time, and it has been done before (VFA pre AFL).

But 2 I cant see. The throw in is an intrigal part of the game, cant see it ever being abandoned.

Nathan Brown, Brady Rawlings and Brent Harvey can't even understand the scoreboard in a close game, so I don't see how a countdown clock is going to help them.

Because they haven't quite ****ed it completely. Sanitised, americanised and dollarised it to the brink of extinction.................yet.

Raw nerve Tiger?

How about this then? Don't look. Easy peasy.

Famous last words...
