Tonight is the first time ever (As far as I am aware) that a countdown clock will be in use at the ground for all players and spectators to know how long is left in each quarter.

What are peoples feelings about this?? There is not many sports in the world that don't have a countdown clock. I think its a move in the right direction. I think the players have a pretty good idea anyway how long is left, and there is no doubt the coaches boxes know. Will it add anything to the spectacle?

I'll be in the stands keeping an eye on it. I'd say the jury is out. If the Pies are up by a few points and they have the ball in the backline are we going to countdown the last 30 seconds?? The last 10 seconds could become a huge chant!

If the game isn't close I don't think it will matter either way.

I will stick a pistol in my mouth if that happened!!!!

I'd support a countdown clock showing how many days left until Adrian Anderson has left as operations manager.

Honestly, it's going to turn into freaking New Years Eve at the footy with half the crowd yelling out the last ten seconds. And I've seen some of our supporters and there's no way I'm kissing 'em either.

Seeing as it will have to say something like

"when he is finished blowing off vlad and takes a money shot"

i dont really want it

Not a fan of the countdown clock at the ground or onscreen. Prefer the clock counting up in all circumstances.

Love the uncertainty once the clock ticks over about about 28mins.

So just when we though AA couldnt get more crazy, he tries to change 150 years of Aussie Rules tradition by installing moronic countdown clocks at the footy.

I can see what this will bring;

Collingwood kicks a goal, with 3 seconds left on the clock to half time, back to the centre, the umpire bounces the ball, but no one moves, both ruckmen stare at each other and the ball rolls limply away, as the siren sounds.

Cmon, this would be the most farcicle thing to come into our game, I hate the American sports when with time ticking down and no timeouts left, everyone walks onto the ground like the game is over, and starts shaking hands.

Time for AA to leave, he is starting to ruin this game, I love the suspense of a close finish, even like the CH 10 5 minute warning on TV.

When watching at home i love the 5 minute warning. Makes it all the more enthralling. Whenever it does the 5 minute warning noise (the whoosh sound or whatever) the missus still gets nervous even if it's a 40 point game....maybe i should stop picking up at mental asylums.

Who is not bored to the back teeth with players holding the ball up like some Olympian trophy to signify that the team is attempting to "ice the clock"?

If it's a close contest, I definitely don't want to know how much time is left. That knowledge kills the suspense and excitement. I want the players to be desperate at the contest right to the final second, not chipping the ball around a deserted backline to waste the few seconds the bench has notified them are left.

Remove the clocks from coaches and media as well!

Meh. You might be right here but you're wrong on your Maxwell call. :thumbsu:

Bread and Circus..............
Makes the public think the AFL are doing something.

Stupid concept built for TV.
