Given our injuries this week our options are severely curtailed.

This may be the perfect time to do two things if we have the courage as a selection committee to do so, because it could backfire or we could find out some further positive news about our list.

Firstly give "the Walls" (Jericho) his opportunity and give him two or three weeks to show his wares

Secondly we could bring in Pfeiffer and Hinge for two similar types. One or both may show some real talent at this level and we find even more competition between spots and a changing of the guard as better skilled players begin to show more reason to be selected than other players whose skills have let us down in the past and this year.

As Bilghty used to say you will never know unless you have a go!!!

When you look at the draw, and yes every team is a challenge, you do see an opportunity to blood some players...but I'm not sure if it is now. If we had 18 of our best 22 running around then yes I think you could afford some experimentation...but I think we are down to 12-13

At 3-2 with a good % why change things.????

I think the team we had last week showed courage under fire. If we hadnt of lost Reilly we may have won by 3 goals.

Keep the team without making wholesale changes I say...Welsh in for Radar

Top jars we need another replacement for Porps.

Welsh may not make it.

Someone has to come in.

Who do you think it should be?

Welsh & Pfeiffer for mine; if Welsh doesn't pull up, then I'd give Jericho one last roll of the dice.

As MD said, we need to know either way. We've kept him on our list knowing his flaws, if there is an upside now is the chance to show it. That way, end of year we know what to do with him.

  • Assume that Welsh Plays – that’s 28
  • Less 2 Rookies = 26
  • Means that all but one of Campbell, Maric, McGregor, Tippett, Hinge, Jericho, and Pfeiffer will be named in a 25 man squad.

Given that Maric and Tippett won’t play for structural reasons……that means that 3 of Campbell, McGregor, Hinge, Jericho, and Pfeiffer will be named.

If Jericho isn’t selected this week – the writing is on the wall.

It’s time to pick up the hammer and smash that case labelled “Break Glass in case of Wizard Cup Final Quarter”

I think the soup is also unliklely to play - shoulder problem.

And the "walls came tumbling down" as John Cougar Mellancamp once said.

Jericho likely to make his 2007 debut.

Where did you hear this? On FiveAA last night they said nothing about Goodwin being unlikely to play, however they did say that Welsh is "doubtful". Haven't heard much about Burton...

Easiest way to find out is to ask the CSG and what banner thay are making

Thanks MD. :)

I tell you what though; it will infuriate me if they give Jericho a game this week. I’m tired of hearing that we need to find out what he offers this team. To get a game surely he has to earn the right to play for the Crows, not be gifted a game. So far this year he’s proved that he’s still soft at the contest, and in his last game he had 1 kick. I know I sound like a broken record with the 1 kick stat but you can’t deny it, that’s how he’s performing when his career is on the line. I cannot believe he would be rewarded after such a dismal effort. Pfeiffer was close to BOG last weekend and Reid noted how well he had been training. He is worthy of being selected, not Jericho.

I agree, one must earn their spot. If at the end of the day they have'nt played and are traded then so be it. All the best to them.

However, Jericho was an emerg the other week so must be in contention. Whoever plays - I hope they kick arse!

Given that Maric and Tippett won’t play for structural reasons……that means that 3 of Campbell, McGregor, Hinge, Jericho, and Pfeiffer will be named.

Why would Maric & Tippett not play for "structural reasons"? Given that Tippett & McGregor are both tall forwards, and Maric offers the possibility of playing Griffin as a tall forward, what's the difference?

Now, I don't expect either Maric or Tippett to play. Maric is still underdone after returning from injury, and Tippett still needs a lot of development, but to say that they won't play for "structural reasons" does not make sense.

Porplyzia is out. He tends to get time both in the midfield and up forward, but probably a little more in the middle. Pfeiffer would slot in well, but imo our need for a quick leading forward is greater. If Welsh pulls up he'll be in. If not, expect Jericho to come in.

Reilly is out. He plays a pure onball role and has some grunt about him. In comes Pfeiffer I would think. He's well built for his age, suits the midfield role.

If Goodwin doesn't come up, we might start to struggle in my view. Hinge may get his first game to fill that defensive role. I don't rate Hinge, I don't see the talent, the nous, generally I don't think he's good enough to keep his spot on our list beyond this year. Prove me wrong Hingey!! Now say for a second that we decide to throw the opposition off and play an extra tall. Tippett could get a gig. Not impossible imo. :D

Burton bothers me more than Goodwin. Generally when there's an injury cloud over him he struggles to come up (I was shocked that he got up for last year's prelim final). I reckon he will miss, and I reckon an underdone McGregor will be the replacement.

Overall I think Goodwin will be the only one to pull up fit. I hope the Birdman can get up but I doubt it to be quite frank.

.
- structural reasons in terms of if KMac is fit - Craig will always play him in front of Tippett and Maric.....sure you can point to the physical similarities - but all I've done is cut to the chase in terms of factoring in that if faced with the choice between 3 talls who have played little or no footy in 6 months (Maric - 8 games, Tippett - 0 games, McGregor - 136 games), he will go with McGregor.....and the other 2 won't play for structural reasons.

Any chance we will just attack the goals this week and reduce the amount of game time we worry about being defensive???

Unfortunately not. I think we will see more of the same... and considering our injury list etc , the need to go ultra defensive is possibly the best strategy

And no I wont like it but will accept it for the win
