Cousins (On the couch)

maybe Hawthorns loss of form is proof that their culture is in trouble??
What does their 2008 flag prove?

Or do we just overlook that piece of evidence?

All this bullshit talk about culture. Apparently we had a shocking culture, but we still played off in two straight grand finals, winning one. Apparently Hawthorn have/had a shocking culture, but they won a flag, beating the best side since the Lions in the decider.

I reckon there are a few clubs that wouldn't mind a little bit more of that bad culture.

Sheehan was good and did his job. End result was a damn fine interview.

Agreed, best football interview ive seen for a while if not ever. I understand why people think the guys were being w***ers but the same people need to understand what a journo is.

Also, Worsfold came out today and said he would welcome Cousins back to the club with open arms tommorow. Obviously it wouldnt be as a player.

The way our midfield dicks about, Id love Cousins back as a player, then as a coach.

It was a very good interview, the journo's didnt mess about and asked the questions we all really want to hear answers for. That is there job and I think they did really well. Cousins too was excellent, never shirked a question and was really well spoken and gave us a lot of insight as to how it has been for him over his career, particularly the last 3 or 4 years.

I dont think he is done at all. Healy seems to think so but I think Cousins is extremely determined and still a very good footballer. If his body doesnt fail him, he still has a few years left in him IMO.

He's a legend and hopefully he can play on a few more years and as he said, leave the game on his terms with some dignity. All the best to him. I still love him!

Good intervew. Good to see Ben looking more comfortable about answering these questions, hopefully won't be asked about them again now, it's time to move on.

Am I the only one who thinks he answered dishonestly , with pre-prepared statements which he used to answer the wrong questions?. Seems like hes saving all the bombs for his book

yes you are. Maybe your just looking for the negatives in Ben, much like a lot of footy media.

This interview reminds us that Cousins was not just a great football player for the club but was a great leader. Just had a problem with addiction. Great to see that he has been in remission for 2 years now. I'm sure sometime down the track he'll be welcomed back to WC as a past champion player

Would be lying if I said I wouldn't kill to still have him running around in our colours, unfortunate that he doesn't get to finish his career with the club he gave so much too.

Great interview, its a shame there aren't more like it in regards to the honesty shown.

Ben is looking stronger as the AFL's responce to his adiction is looking pathetic in hindsight. He looks wise as they look ill informed.

If he stays strong he would be a valuable coach and leader around the club.

Impressive interview, by both the press and himself. I thought there was a lot of the twelve steps about it - confronting what you have to and being honest with yourself, but without implicating other people. I'd like to know more about the biochemistry and meth use re: performance enhancement. Cyclists used to use amphetamines all the time, and Ben has been a heckuva 'gut runner'. I can't imagine the rest of it being much help, mind.

Benny was a no show at Richmond training today , probably bad reporting on behalf of afl .com but I hope he sees his career out with playing some good football .

Me too. He must not be lost to football when his playing days are over. He speaks better than the majority of players, coaches and media "personalities"!

Fourteen AFL players tested positive to illicit drugs in 2009 , with two players failing the test twice . The ratio of positive samples is down on previous years .

That's a bit rich. Let's not rush to re-write history on the back of one 20-minute interview.

Not much about Cousins' conduct could be described as wise. Nor does it make much sense to call the AFL's response pathetic. You could argue that it was expedient or media-driven, but it's pretty clear they couldn't allow Cousins to be running around playing footy while still in the throes of drug addiction.
