Is Cox in our starting line up?I thought his game on Saturday night was quite good, from limited game time.He seems to have all the attributes of a good utility player ie height 191cm,weight 92kg,reasonable speed, evasivness, good hand and foot skills, awareness and can read the play. His games in 08 were good without being spectacular from saturdays game he seems to have gone up a notch.Who or what will keep him out of the starting side?ps I'm thinking of putting him in my sc team.

It's hard to say. Cox is certainly there and there abouts. He did himself no favours returning to pre-season overweight last year. Especially considering his fitness was something that needed improving. From all reports his pre-season this year has been good.

He certainly has loads of "upside" but he is also a player who risks being one who doesn't fit in with the game plan or have a role. I think he should have been given the oppertunity to play off a wing like L Brown did on saturday night. I hope for his and our sake he does break in because he has a lot of class to him and is a good user of the ball. His lack of accountability and his laconic nature and lack of intensity around some contests may hurt him.

As for SC I wouldn't include him for the bolded reason. On previous years he has not always been rewarded for often very good form in the two's.

I'm a fan but I tend to think he'll be competing with a few for a spot in the team. Goldsack, Dawes, Reid, McCarthy, Anthony, Rusling, Toovey in particular. The recruitment of L Brown and Corrie doesn't help his cause either. And you just never know which of the new recruits might put their hand up this year with players like Reed, Macaffer, and Blight untested at senior level.

Bodes well for the team if there is that much competition for spots in the 22.

I am a fan. I think he is more committed than some think (including Malthouse to some extent). He has excellent run, good footskills, good hands, good evasiveness. Perfect for the new Plan B.

Not Really sure where he stands and also what Postion does he play is he a Wingman or does he play on the Flanks.

He will be competing against a few players who are simmilar to him in:

  • Goldsack
  • Reed
  • Blight
There all similar players who are Mid-size Skinny players that has Dash and can play in the Midfield

He is miles ahead of Reed and Blight, and plays a completely different role to Goldsack, not similar at all really.

I like him. I think (hope) he could turn into a decent HBF for us, has good size, skill and speed but needs more game time to cement his spot. I would put him in front of Toovey.

I'm sceptical about Cox. I would love to see him make it however i just don't see who he will replace unless there is injuries.

One of my favourites. Has tons of skill and class, and is a good decision-maker to boot. If given opportunity in his natural position of wing/hff, will be a very good player for us.

still looked too big.....

but didnt have his usual **** ups or bouts of disinterest that infuriate me.

I dont think he is in our best 22, but he will play some games i imagine

I reckon if he stays on the flanx it's career over.

Got to take a punt, either move him inside or let him roam free like a Hird. If he can position himself properly, he's got the frame, speed to make an impact.

He's 1 player i'd love to see go at the ball like G Brown. He can't stay on the fringe forever.

I think his best contribution to the side would come as a half back flank or wing, where he can use his running, skills, and evasion to fullest effect. However, I would generally prefer smaller / faster / quicker players on the wings like Wellingham / McCarthy / Thomas / Barham types, and prefer more courageous players at half back like the Goldsacks, Reeds, Blights, MAxwells, etc.

I think he is a good depth player, but not one for our consistent best 22 over the next 5 years, as younger players will come and take these positions.

I expect him to get traded at the end of the year to adequate value (late 3rd to 4th rounder-ish).
