This guy really needs to understand that you only get one shot at a professional career.

If he can't get his weight right by next season we really have to look at letting him go.

He has to pick betwen excessive food or Collingwood in a hurry - things seem to be getting worse.

Funny you mentioned this because I hadn't noticed it before but when they were warming up as I was just behind the goals, I said to my Magpie supporting wife "he looks fat", she agreed.

I'm surprised how filled out he is.

I have never criticized players in the past, but Cox is starting to annoy me.
I had a high opinion of him and still think he is extremely gifted.
The difference between a good player and an excellent player is work rate and discipline. I do not think Cox works hard enough.
He just looks too casual most of the time.
He has been given a great opportunity this year to cement his place in the side, but I do not think he is really taking it.

I like Shannon, but he should not play again until he gets his weight down.

I'm going to take a shot in the dark at what is going on with Cox and his weight.

I believe that Cox is going through a stage of building himself up so that he can become a more defensive based player.

Cox, for the first few years of his AFL career, looked like a skinny kid, yet all of a sudden seems over weight. This would have to be a club driven program to increase his body mass, and then during the next pre season, convert the mass into muscle.

It's just a theory, but you can see others in the AFL going through the same process, most notably Lance Franklin, who has also been criticized for his "weighty" look this year.

Is slowly turning into the Malthouse stereotype of "fat-arsed wombat" type of player.

Definitely needs to shred some weight, particularly around his lower area.

Having said that, perhaps he doesn't. It doesn't stop Stuart Dew from playing good footy.

I've seen him up close in person and he is bloody huge (muscle-wise), i was so shocked!

Im sure the 'gut' is just alot of protein etc. becuase when i saw him i didn't really notice it.

MM's old fat arsed wombat type player is not what Cox is. The wombats/plodders were more like in and under midfielders. Swan could probably be called one actually.

Cox's weight doesn't stop him from being a good footballer. It's his decision making. His softness I can live with but for the role we want him to play he needs to be able to hit targets and make good decisions. He needs to take a leaf from Toovey's book, if you don't know what the **** you're going to do, run as far as you can and kick it long, don't try going backwards, loopy handballs to a player under pressure etc.

he tries to do too much with the ball, and take everyone on.... If he is going to do that he needs to get stronger like Harry O'brien, so he can shrug off the tackles with ease....... every time he gets the ball I shutter....

Cook and Cox refuse to take their first option with the ball. Neither seem to have any plan when moving it.

Cox in particular is saved by the fact that we have very few defenders who are willing to take the game on. But this cannot be an excuse for consistent turnovers.

His evasive skills are good for VFL level, but enter the AFL and he gets brought down. AFL players go for the hips and pin your arms.

When i think he finally does something good, he mucks it up directly after. Very rare you get 2 good disposals consistently from Cox.

We have a lot of 3rd man up type players down back. We don't need another, especially if Maxwell keeps playing as daring as he did on the weekend.

You mention Cook

That is the 3rd time I have seen Cook at Subi and he just doesnt have what it takes for AFL level. His disposal and decision making is way below par. How he got drafted in the 20's is beyond me
