Was between these 2 for senior job at Adelaide, Wallace was not wanted (except by Cornes).
A couple of board members wanted Eade.
Eade was desperate to come to the crows.

My question is, who has done the better job so far, Eade or Craig.

My view is Craig started off better, but eade has developed the Bulldogs to be a better allround team.

Cant remember how the 2 squads compared initially?

Any help?

How would you compare the 2 squads when both took over i think it was 2005?

I think both were in the same position in that they needed a fresh direction/approach from a new source,

Craig done the near impossible in many experts eyes in that he rejuvenated a worn out list into a squad that came ever so close in claiming our third flag.

Eade & the Dogs had couple of years down the bottom hence the quality draft picks he was able to select.

To be honest whose shoes would i like to be wearing in regards to claiming a flag within the next 2 years then i would have to say R Eades especially if they can keep B Hall on the park.

But our list has more positives in my opinion than what the Bulldogs have on a longer time frame of say 3 - 6 years.

the problem will *ALWAYS* be on that subject, not who would have been the better choice, both have shown themselves to be fine coaches. Given Eade's track record, and his enthusiasm for our job, it remains a disgrace that the chairman of the 3 person interview panel (come on down, Mr W Jackson) didn't bother to turn up to Eade's presentation.

Eade has stated he didn't get a fair go, rightly, so its hard to say we made the right decision when we went through a charade to find who we thought was the right person.

I'd have been very happy with Eade, and hindsight hasn't shown anything to change my mind on that, but in the end the bloke we fixed the process for has turned out to be pretty good too.

Oh, and we had a much better list than the doggies, but its been long enough that this doesn't really matter any more.

This is truly silly. If Eade was a wonder coach he would have won a flag sometime in his first 14 years or even made a GF one year in the last 13. He is a good coach, but.....

Why are we being so tough on Craig? Done a great job. We've made the finals ever year (pretty important) not like our poor cousins down the road who pack it in when it gets a bit tough. That excaberates our poor finals record because in 2007-8 we weren't really that good but ground it out and made the finals. Bloody good effort that. As a supporter I want that week in week out hardness we've had with Craig

Ask supporters of the other 14 clubs. They rate him. We are lucky to have him

I really, really can't wait for the season to start

It's like the clock has been turned back once again :(

We were in the same position last year after 2 games of the pre-season & looked like an uncoordinated rabble but with each game we improved just a little more & eventually we won the last practice game before the season proper started.

I was more referring to the state of this board than the state of our team :o:rolleyes:

Realistically... I think despite not having made a GF... Craig has always been in a position to (by making finals from pos'n 8 thru 1 by rnd 22)... but for whatever reason hasn't. Having said this... I think NC has single handedly lead a culture shift in all clubs including our down the road cousins in terms of leadership, defensive and offensive structures... Whenever he speaks, it's with clarity, real honesty and conviction... Eade on the other hand I think falls short... on the bulldogs I think his success speaks more of his squad than his coaching... I think it's the reverse when it comes to the crows.

As supporters, we can only go by listening to coaches through the media... and on this basis Craig vs Eade... Craig wins convincingly. Having said that footballers sometimes need simple instructions... and to this end... perhaps Eade wins. Don't get me wrong... I think Eade is an above average communicator... Neil is more impressive.

One last thing... I am a little worried that Neil's message could be wearing thin... and some additional stimulus is needed. I am not convinced of the personalities and group dynamics of having Matthew Clarke, Ben Hart and Mark Bickley on the same coaching panel. It feels inbred and over the journey will prevent new ideas from evolving a well documented (but still effective) game plan led by Craig. In reverse... I think Todd Viney was a great inclusion.

Whenever I hear any of Ben Hart or Mark Bickley speak on 5AA.. it's just an echo of Neil Craig's older philosiphy's... nothing new, interesting, least of all inspiring which should be a major part of an AFL coaches reportoir (ala Darren Crocker from North Melbourne).

Bailey is pretty decent though, as we will see in the next few years.

Are you high? I could have coached an AFL team to bottom of the ladder 2 years in a row, infact I bet all of us could. Dean Bailey is the most pathetic excuse of an AFL coach I have ever seen. Any success he has will be on the back of the biggest bottoming out process any competition has ever experienced. TANK TANK TANK. Pathetic.

Dean Bailey is like an AFL coach on quaalude's... delivers monotonic dribble eyeing off priority picks every year.

to be fair, Craig took over a team that pretty much made the finals every year.

You'll be embarrassed of this post in years to come. Dean Bailey is one of the most intelligent, astute people in football and one of the game's finest communicators. Don't be fooled by his willingness to bend the rules in pursuit of the list he wants.

you'll be bookmarking this post, along with all the others right? :D

It is a shame we never gave Eade a genuine shot, but I don't know how you could possibly think he's done a better job than NC. They are in with a genuine 5/1 shot this year, and Eade knows how to get the best out of his players, but I'm very confident the NC along with Jonas have done an outstanding job putting together a solid team and rebuilding a winning football environment.

The numbers are pretty straight forward for me as well:
+ NC's H&A record is superior, 76-43 v 63-45
+ NC has played finals every year, whilst Eade has failed twice
- Eade's September W-L record is slightly better, 3-5 v 3-6, in the sense that he has lost one less game (because he hasn't put them in a position to play that extra game!)
+ In any case both sides have gone to the PF twice
