Although the brisbane game is not over yet, it's not going so well at this moment.. still cheering though

What i want to highlight though is that if this game keeps about the way it is now, we will have lost with more scoring shots again. That's 4-4 and we have got the most scoring shots in all 8 games. Is it something about us that we can't convert it into goals!!

I have to qualify that i only get to listen to the radio online, I don't get to see any of the games.

TERRIBLE kicking for goal!!

What is with hitting the post?? It's like we're aiming for it all the time?

And so many times we've had chances and not converted...and then Brisbane go down and kick a goal straight away.

Funnily enough at the end of the day that was the difference between 2 sides. We should have been a much further in front at half time. We seem to have love affairs with posters. We keep hitting 3-4 posters in a game lately. Bassett was taken to cleaners BIG time.

Damn - where did those car keys go??!! - the wall looks a bit dodgy this week - after all those posters and near misses as well as every time Lynch outdid Bassett - honestly - isnt there someone else who can play on him?

Forget the ruckman Stiffy - how about finding a tall strong defender [ who can also play a bit too!]

My stereo speaker is f*cked, remote went through it :( :o

Ben Rutten is the type of FB that could do well on Lynch but needs more experience.

Injury update

Andrew Crowell (Hamstring)
Ronnie Burns (Abductor)
James Begley (Concussion)

Actually the cat's a bit worse for wear too -picked a bad time to walk past when Macca kicked OTF.

I thought that non-free to McGregor was costly - from the bounce - a Voss goal - and why did Clark tap the ball into the corridor instead of going boundary side!!

Very true. I thought Clarke did that a few times actually.

Where did our midfield go in the 2nd half?? As for Bassett, he has never played well on Lynch - I can't understand why Gary persists with him (on Lynch). I'm not sure who else we could have put on him instead....but anyone would have been better!!

Luck wasn't on our side. How many times did we hit the post? Like 3 or 4! And then the Lions get all these lucky goals where the ball just dribbles through! :(

I thought Begley was sensational tonight. He looks like he'll fit in really well in the backline, although he and Torney could be competing for a position when we have our full team back? It was a shame he got knocked out at the end....do people think Leppitsch will get reported? It wasn't too malicious, but more careless I think. He didn't make any attempt to avoid him, the ball had moved on, and Begley had his head down.

Gallagher was good too...good enough to keep his place for a few more weeks. I was puzzled as to why we only brought Doughty on with a few minutes left in the 3rd quarter? Surely he would have been a good option when our midfield started to go to sleep early in the 3rd.

A very disappointing loss - it was a very winnable game.

Why is it that in important moments, our kicking goes to the *****s?? Bode, Gallager and Burns first shot should all have been goals. Even Matthews made a comment after the match saying we were the first time in a while whom has not kicked as striaght as other teams. He's right though.

From the 3rd quarter on, it seemed to me that the Lions dominated from clearances and such. They had too much possession, and to their credit, they passed and handballed with amazing accuracy. Thats what got us in the end I reckon - they got too much of the ball.

But I guess, its not all bad, as we did keep it to a margin of 3 goals. It could have easily been more in the end. It was a close contest for the most part, and I think we put in a strong brave effort. All this, and we had 5 first choice players out too for this match.

How many games do we have to endure the crap efforts of the likes of our so called defenders............Lynch must cream himself knowing he's got Bassett as his opponent....the last time they played he kicked 7.......... tonight another lazy 7...........as for Hart ......made some obvious disposal errors.....no where near the player everyone reckons he is........too easily beaten...refuses to put his body on the line.....simple reason why Hart never gets injured ....he's never near enough to the action where it's willing.. to get hit.....Until we decide the bloke is a wingman not a defender...the better we'll be as a footy side. Still allows every forward he plays on to lead him to the ball.........

Port's Tredrea & Cornes took 19 marks & had 33 kicks between them & kicked 4 goals;Rocca & Tarrant took 10 marks & kicked 6 between them[inc the winning goal] tonight Brisbane took 12 contested marks between Lynch Leppitch & Bradshaw in there forward line & kicked 8 goals.........the one thing in common in all cases........... there opponents were these two B graders !

Isn't about time the coaches realise you can come up with all the combinations you like up forward but while we rely on these two...one is simply a DUD who can't kick, cant mark,is slow as a wet week, cant kick it any further that about 40 yards & can only go one way on to his left which stuffs up the play more times than not........ & Hart who simply is the most over rated player we have............

I'm tired of watching this stuff served up week in & week out...think I'm wrong......... pull out the final series 97 & 98 & tell me Hart is the same player! Try & explain how he's improved over the past 6 years.........you'll need a giant leap of faith to say otherwise................

Because we don't have anyone else strong enough to go with him. Biglands could have been an option but they we don't have back up ruckman. McGregor was on Leppitsch, and I think he did a very good job. Hopefully in time Rutten develops into a backman who can play on strong gorillas like Lynch

Nah nothing in it. Lappitsch actually slowed down a bit once he saw he was gonna clean up Begley.

Begley was sensational. I really like what he offers to our team and how he plays. A good pick up. Hopefully he can get over his injuries.;)

Not from where I sat Stiffy. I've watched it several times and I think Leppitsch should be cited.

Begley had knocked the ball on and was in a stumbling position with the ball well gone when Leppitsch made a point of running through and making contact with Begley's head with either his hip or leg. Very cowardly IMO.

Begley was in our top 3 players IMO. As I've said previously he'll be Smarty's replacement in time - that tall running defender that Smarty has given us for so long.

I'll have to watch it again but I honestly didn't think there was much in it.

He is a very good pick up for us. He can also play further up the ground. I now see why Blighty tought he would be a future captain

Same here Stiffy didn't think there was much in it & Leppitsch could have done a lot more damage if he hadn't of pulled up.

Begley impressed me as well & let's hope he is ok for next week.

Tonight's match sh*tted me off as well. We totally dominated the midfield but we just missed too many easy shots at goal. I guess an uninjured marking forward wouldn't go astray as far as trying to convert our midfield dominance into goals. :(

As for Lynch, I thought 7 goals flattered him, but he was still way too good for Bassett. McGregor should have gone on to him at some stage IMO.

I nearly had a heart attack to actually see Bassett mark a ball in front of Lynch.

I agree too that maybe Ben Hart needs to be re-assigned to a wing/back flank - I think he is below his best atm

Begley could turn out to be the pick of the 4 recruits - long term! - very impressive

We win a game after the siren!! - I'd like to see that !! - NO on 2nd thoughts maybe not! - not good for the BP etc!!

OK - when was the last time we did that? - not Rod Jameson's goal v Fitzroy in '91?!!
