You gotta wonder how many 6's at Oz Test grounds, would be caught out if Oz cricket didn't introduce the boundary rope around 2002/03 season. Especially given players could lean on the fence to balance themselves to take catches.
The grounds that run east-west for footy, Perth Stadium/WACA, MCG and Gabba have long square boundaries of 85m or so from the middle pitch to the fence are the most obvious examples from squarish hook and pull shots, but all angles at these 3 grounds and the other Test grounds have had plenty of examples of 6s inside the fence but would have been caught if there were no ropes.
Test averages for a lot of batsmen who have played 10+ tests in Oz, might have been reduced by 4 to 6 runs.
He wouldn't be in front of Lillee or McGrath, but he's right up there.Sidebar: given his record and left-arm, is Starc in the all-time Australian Test XI?
Selection seems pretty clear now. Piss old man Ussie off, open with Head and bring Webster back so we have 6 genuine bowling options. Depending on Weathers form rotate Sheffield Shield openers til one sticks.
I'm positive that at stumps last night England thought they'd just pile on 400 and bowl us out for f all.
Dare I say McCullum is the Hinkely of cricket?
Edit: *Test cricket. They did "win" the ODI cup, but due to a stupid rule
