Connolly welcomes back Croad to Dockers line-up
By Lisa King

The Fremantle Dockers will welcome Trent Croad back into the team this weekend as they take on Sydney at the SCG on Sunday.

Croad will make his return after two outstanding weeks playing in the WAFL where he was demoted for lacking performance in the AFL.

The forward found his form in the lower level kicking six goals in his team's 177 point victory last Saturday.

Coach Chris Connolly said today it was Croad's self confidence that ensured his position in the team this weekend.

"It's almost a relief sometimes that (returning to the WAFL) does happen," Connolly said.

"It's super disappointing but you can just reset your goals and he's come back with a desperate attitude and has been fantastic at every training session and in his games for Claremont. It's always a test of character when you're dropped and he's come through with flying colours."

A visit from Australian basketball legend Luc Longley to the club is also hoped to add something special to Croad's return.

Longley spoke to the team today about his own career ups and downs and then stayed on to observe the Dockers training session.

"(Longley) has had a good relationship with Trent and a number of players in the team so we're just very lucky to have one of Australia's greatest sportsmen ever absolutely love Fremantle Dockers," Connolly said.

"Luc's a fantastic Fremantle supporter, absolutely loves the club. He spent a little bit of time with the team earlier in the season but now with the stage being set with some big games ahead of us to just come in and talk to the group about his own career and just be around the club and build relationships with individuals within the team. I'm sure the players can learn a lot off him."

Troy Longmuir, Ben Cunningham, Luke Webster and Scott Thornton have also been named in the team this week.
All the AFL and WAFL line-ups can be viewed under the team lists section of the FootyGoss website tonight.

I reckon you'll find Croad & T Lo will come in this week at the expense of Grover injured & the unlucky ommission of Sandilands of team balance

Dunno I think it might be Koopsie that gets the chop after his 2 possie game last week. Or maybe young Byron needs a rest as he looked a bit sore also.

Still we only dreamed off being in this position for years, agonising who to leave out!

Not sure , Short ground big taps, And did you see the shepard he put on Mcleod last week to lett Belly run into space and a goal resulted. Brilliant.

Good Call Ripper but last season Sydney at the SCG killed us with there run , we paid the price of going in tall. I am sure CC knows this, unless he has another card up his sleeve...........

All true so why go for another tall not as quick ;)

Time will tell Ripper, I want Ogre to play but looking at it I just cant make a case for him. especailly with the reasons mentioned above

The Brisbane game was the first time this year (maybe the only time this year) where we won the clearances. Now the Ogre didn't go that well in the ruck last week but Simmo did. I would hate to see Ball give Simmo a bath and not have the option of the Ogre. On the SCG Clearances are vital as the centre is so close to the goal. Sydney are a bit short of tall defenders so CC can plonk the Ogre down there when he is not on the ball.

He has been in position a lot in the forward line this year but spilled a lot of marks. Sooner or later they are going to stick.

So what?

It's good that we are getting our best team together at the business end of the season, no injury worries, just a couple to hit good form. Perfectly poised unlike some other teams. :)

Ripper,

I wouldn't have thought that Croad warranted being named in your best team. Granted, he played ok in the WAFL but has underachieved spectacularly at AFL level.

In last years form where he averaged 2 goals a game he is in our best 22.

On current form (the only form that counts) he's costing you about 25 grand a goal isn't he?

I'm not slagging the Dockers off, I just don't believe Croad is in your best 22 and I reckon you'd be better of without him. Dockers fans seem to be sharply divided on his worth and I'd be surprised if he sees out his contract with Freo

Still think that?

Croad was sensational in the 1st half today , a lot quieter in the 2nd , but did enough just to suggest he can do it !!!

Trent Croad, mmm that rings a bell isnt he that Hawthorn player? no wait he should be at hawthorn. He like Jeff farmer has been pathetic at Freo.I hear that croady is enjoying life in western australia but if he intends to further his career he needs to move interstate(victoria).
