Connolly welcomes back Croad to Dockers line-up
By Lisa King
The Fremantle Dockers will welcome Trent Croad back into the team this weekend as they take on Sydney at the SCG on Sunday.
Croad will make his return after two outstanding weeks playing in the WAFL where he was demoted for lacking performance in the AFL.
The forward found his form in the lower level kicking six goals in his team's 177 point victory last Saturday.
Coach Chris Connolly said today it was Croad's self confidence that ensured his position in the team this weekend.
"It's almost a relief sometimes that (returning to the WAFL) does happen," Connolly said.
"It's super disappointing but you can just reset your goals and he's come back with a desperate attitude and has been fantastic at every training session and in his games for Claremont. It's always a test of character when you're dropped and he's come through with flying colours."
A visit from Australian basketball legend Luc Longley to the club is also hoped to add something special to Croad's return.
Longley spoke to the team today about his own career ups and downs and then stayed on to observe the Dockers training session.
"(Longley) has had a good relationship with Trent and a number of players in the team so we're just very lucky to have one of Australia's greatest sportsmen ever absolutely love Fremantle Dockers," Connolly said.
"Luc's a fantastic Fremantle supporter, absolutely loves the club. He spent a little bit of time with the team earlier in the season but now with the stage being set with some big games ahead of us to just come in and talk to the group about his own career and just be around the club and build relationships with individuals within the team. I'm sure the players can learn a lot off him."
Troy Longmuir, Ben Cunningham, Luke Webster and Scott Thornton have also been named in the team this week.
