If the AFL deliver a 3 week penalty (if he's guilty), it would be more offensive to the demographic they purport to be protecting than the offense itself.

It’s that’s true and he has said it repeatedly during the game, this probably needs to be a bigger suspension than Graham got.

I'd be okay with 4 too but 5 makes a real statement, not that it would have any difference to Rankine whether he got 4 or 5 at this stage.

Although they could always lose the first game of the qualifying final, which means 5 weeks means he's definitely out for the whole final series.

I don't think the AFL can sweep this under the carpet. But I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it's a complex investigation that will take considerable time, and in the interests of both clubs who are playing finals and can't be distracted, the investigation will be postponed until the end of the season for procedural fairness
