Hmm, another one of these.
Once again, in the interests of protecting a group of people from ‘harm’ associated with the hearing of a word, we create a weeks long drama in which that word is relentlessly repeated or alluded to all over society and the media.
Seriously, if the aim is to actually protect gay people from hearing bad words, as an approach it’s a massive strategic fail.
What's the alternative? Let people get away with dropping slurs because confronting them is uncomfortable?
Ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist is much more uncomfortable for victims, I promise you. Letting people get away with it won't put a stop to it. Growth often requires struggle.
The aim is not to stop people from hearing bad words, it's to stop people from saying them in the first place.
