Really disppointed with only 56k at the game yesterday. Weather wasn't that bad (slightly chilly, but not wet), Saturday afternoon, two big Melbourne-based clubs at the G and both sides playing for their (albeit slim) finals chances.
Wonder why?

Don't think the Bomber fans turned up yesterday. Plenty of yellow and black there though. Suppose it also had something to do with the game being live on Foxtel. Still pretty disappointing not to see at least 60k there.

red and black fans have lost their faith in 2008...were clearly out numbered by the yellow and black

The sooner they delay local games on Foxtel, the better. 20% of crowds stay home to watch their team on Fox live rather than go to the ground to watch it. Wonder how many would stay home if the game was delayed by 30-60 minutes on Foxtel

The sooner they do that the sooner I cancel my subscription.

Dont penalise footy lovers because of bandwagoners. (Ie: believe it or not I do enjoy watching games that involve teams other than Richmond, and I like watching them live).

So no thanks.

I highly doubt you would cancel it
If it's a non Richmond game in Melbourne, then there's no reason why you would care much if the game was delayed by half an hour. I don't give a flying banana that FTA games are delayed on Friday and Saturday nights. I still watch them and I'd still get fox so I could watch other games too. If it's Richmond I'd be at the footy

The numbers deceived me on Saturday.
Plenty of supporters on the train. (Lots of Tiggy supporters)
Lots streaming into the ground (around 1pm)
Got into the ground and the ground looked rather empty (???)
By game start, crowd looked reasonable.
AFL members side along wing down to Punt Road had more yellow in the crowd than red. (suggesting more Tigers)
When we came back and hit the front, from where I was sitting, the Punt Road end exploded. (Beautiful) But it's hard to hear the noise when your part of it. (know what I mean?)

Essendon supporters whinge about the umpiring more than any other supporters I know. (Even remember them whinging way back when Waganeen played for them)

It's official.......Essendon supporters are fair weather supporters.....lol

I would consider it.

I hate watching any sporting events delayed. If it's Richmond in Melbourne 99% of the time I am at the footy too.

But the fact is there are at least 3 other games on Fox Sports each week that dont involve Richmond that I want live. People dont pay extra money to watch delayed sport.

The sooner Channel 7 and 10 pull their fingers out of their arses and start showing live interstate games the better.

Footy was so much better back in the Channel 9 days --> Friday night games shown live when sold out or interstate, Saturday night free to air games were always the interstate ones, so you could actually see your team live.

In any case, I pay for Foxtel, and I wouldnt pay to watch a delayed game.

Thats your opinion, which is valid, but I personally cannot stand watching delayed games. Even if it were 10 mins delayed I would struggle to watch it.

Exactly!

Agree wholeheartedly on the ch 9 live interstate games.. was so much better. But no, lets put "better homes and gardens" on instead. :thumbsd:

I hate watching anything that has already happened. Shits me enough when watching American sport knowing there is probably a 2min or so delay.. let alone a 30min or worse delay.

It wasn't a great crowd but there is no point blaming Essendon. We have to bring our own crowd.

Essendon have been outnumbered - and outbarracked - by both Carlton and ourselves in recent games and will be heavily outnumbered by the Top 8 Magpies next week. There weren't many more than 22/24,000 of them on Saturday and there won't be any more than that next week either. They have a huge armchair glory hunting brigade from the Sheedy years but any of those who actually went to the game have stopped doing so. Basically they have the biggest armchair fanbase and that means the biggest fairweather fanbase.

However there should have been 40,000 of us there and there was more like 30,000. We need to get out just as much as Essendon do if these games are to be really big.

MIght have a bit to do with the standard of norks on offer at the Royal pre game. Very very average yesterday and doesnt inspire the big crowds.

Care to do a report - a la Coburg reports ?
