Analysis Crowley and Dawson

I have liked our smaller sized defence this year, but honestly it hasnt been tested. I'm not sure if it will hold up if our midfield loses like it has in the past. Going small does give us more creativity and run but I'd feel safer in a finals match against Hawthorn or Sydney playing three tall defenders.The balance Ross does decide to go with when Dawson is available will be very interesting.

When the time comes Dawson will be in at the expense of either Ibbo, Dufman or Sutty. Ross loves him and he has taken some big scalps over the years for us.

Dawson is good to have as back up to Mc, but Ibbo can't be dropped for him as he provides us with so much more.

Ross has pretty much made the tagger role redundant, looks like he is backing our midfield against others.

I had a feeling last year Ross was going to change his ways, losing 3 Grand Finals and the club disappointment he has decided to evolve. I think with them knowing Crowley will be out before preseason has sped up the process.

I think the change has also come about from the realisation that Freo has the best midfield in the competition. When your first rotation is that good, you back them to win. Taggers are good when you know your midfield doesn't match the opposition, as a lesser player (Tagger) cancels out the star player.

I think this is about right - we need Dawson and Pearce fit (and later Silvagni) as back up. But the current group is our first team defence.

Heard this as well - apparently requires surgery.
