Whats the thoughts on us playing 3 big men.I am a big gee for Hudson playing at full foward can take a pack mark and is a good kick for goal, also he has a good footy brain. He could also do the ruck work in the foward line so the ruckman[Clarke or Biglands] can stay a kick behind the play so if the ball comes out quickly we have some one there to make a contest.

Huddo has to stay as number 1 ruck. Rucks well, gets plenty of it around the ground, leads the clearances for the whole team. He can actually take an overhead mark. ;)

He's the ruckman that we've been dreaming of having for the last umpteen years since Rehn at his best.

If Clarke comes back into the side it can only be as teh second ruck to Huddo. that pushes Biglands up to to take that forward role that was suggested.

Given that McGregor has moved forward and playing well that's not needed either.

So that brings us back to 2 ruckmen only IMO.

Leave Clarke in the SANFL I reckon. No need to change our structure at all, at least with regards to the ruck.

Huddo should be the number one ruckman by far he has been the best in the business this year behind Spida Everitt. If Clarke is to play again this season that could make it handy, he could provide relief for huddo while Huddo goes down forward where i would have Rhett Dirty Dancing Biglands playing, having a similar forward structre as the tigers. But in saying that at this stage im finding it hard to bring clarke into the side, maybe it is time to start breeding one of the younger ones in the ruck.

Why would you take the "clearance king" out of the centre?

To use a real estate term
"Clearances, Clearances, Clearances"

or

As Bill Clinton said to George Bush Sr
"Its the clearances, stoopid"

Leave Huddo in the middle and back him up with whoever

totally agree with that.

to sum it up, clarke is history. also biglands hardly set the world on fire up forward.

I am not personally a big fan of ruckmen playing in the forward line. Yeah they have height, but lack the mobility and speed to lead and their kicking in most cases is questionable. Ever wonder why most ruckman after taking a mark their first instinct is to handball off to a running player and not take the kick ???

As far as I am concerned Spider and Paul Salmon are the only two ruckman that I have seen become good forwards other than that its just a stop gap measure that might work in one game and fail the next two.

Hudson is having a great year in the ruck, Clarke is only a tap ruckman who has no around the ground value and biglands has his moments when he comes on to give Hudson a rest and Biglands also offers more around the ground position than what Clarke would. I am happy with how things are. I think Matthew Clarke has played his last game for Adelaide unless Huddo or Biglands gets injuried.
