Caught bits of a session that the SEN morning show had with Rocket Eade today. Amongst other topics, he was asked whether he keeps a watch on how other clubs are travelling this time of year. He replied that he / the Bulldogs do, and commented specifically that the Saints are spending a lot of the summer bulking up and getting stronger, and that "the Crows are flying on the track".

Interesting comment from a rival coach...

It’s almost a football cliché now

During the summer months someone will release a media release that every player is up and going strong and has never been fitter and every club is flying on the track.

Bla, Bla, Bla

The best time to see how a side is going is after round 3 or 4; then you will really see how much work has been put in over the summer.

True, but such quotes usually come from within the club - not from an opposition coach.

But he’s also not going to come out and say that the Adelaide Crows (or any other AFL club for that matter) are looking crappolla and will miss the 8 that year or we are looking forward to playing them, as we know we can win.

It’s about not giving any club ammunition to use against you. Rather than give a answer where it looks like he isn’t keeping an eye on who his competitors are he just a safe answer that didn’t insult anyone.

Chela would have fired up when he played Lleyton Hewitt in the Australian Open for being labelled a spitter, that’s why you only hear positive things from Roddick and federer.

It appears Eade keeps a very close eye on the Crows as a bit of a benchmark.

No doubt we impressed him during the coaches interview process and on the ground last year.

Plus the bulldogs gameplan and Crows are regularly comapred as being very close - another reason to keep a close eye on us.

are they????? never heard that before. Eade was all out attack last year.
Yep! - Eade was interviewed last year, the medium I can't recall but it was pointed out there were a great deal of similarities with the exception the Bulldogs tend to handball more and the Crows kick more and longer but other than that those two clubs match up better than any other club.

Just repeating the conversation the best I can recall;)

Dont know about all out attack, everyone got unnecessarily excited with their running game at the end of the yr if thats what you mean? He often flooded back leaving one person or no one in 50 though.

I guess there similar as they both involve run off half Back if the bulldogs Defence was at a higher level im guessing there gameplan would be much closer to ours
