I cant find the link but Rucci wrote in todays Advertiser a very disturbing piece. Apparently Craig flogged the guys in Wednesdays training. He also alluded to the fact that some of the players told Craig in the post match review they were exhausted on Thursday. This is not the first time as he apparently he did a similar thing before the 2005 prelim final against WC.

If this is all true then what was Craig thinking? Before a final he flogs them, the weather forecast was for a warm Saturday. Wouldnt it make more sense to give them a light run before such a big game? Its not as if they are going to get any fitter than they already are. And it might explain their second half flatness.

Rucci also goes on to rebuff Craigs "Destination Disease". When has Craig ever alluded to just making the finals was good enough? He is always on about setting no limitations, stating the team had high expectations.

This whole destination disease is a load of crap. After all our recent finals failures do the players really think making it is good enough. Was Bassett happy to just make it in his last final series? Were Goodwin, Mcleod, Edwards happy to just make it knowing they didnt have long to go? It sounds like an excuse to cover the real reasons behind our failure.

And did, in the review on Monday, some players offer feedback that last Thursday they were exhausted by this workout?

It is not the first time Craig has faced this theme. Although he has repeatedly made it clear that his challenging training programs are designed to build up the stamina and strength required of his players, successive finals failures have again thrown doubt on the validity of the tactic.

Just read it, Rucci has absolutely no idea if this is true, he's only speculating, he's just trying to make himself sound important and well informed, as well as just his usual slag at the Crows. Biggest bunch of BS you will see, NC would know better than anyone else not to flog sides before finals, you do that in the games leading up to the finals, not the finals themselves.

unlike many people here - i don't get hung up on the words that Craigy is using its the underlying message he is giving which for people who actually interact with real people isn't difficult to pick up.

Craigy is pissed off, no Angry that we lost, you could tell from the presser, you could tell when he was walking down to the ground after the game and you can tell from the interview on 5AA, the stupid labels he puts on things are for the types of supporters who read Rucci stuff and even half believe it. so he needs to give an alternate "name" for things

From an outsider's POV the players being overworked is far more plausible than 'destination disease'. Craig is notorious for having the most gruelling training sessions out of any other club so it would make sense that the players were drained.

From memory, i think the crows have been up (by at least 3 goals or more) in their last 3 finals games only to be caught. As well as craig's noted game day coaching deficiencies in finals, maybe fitness is also an issue?

I do see where you are coming from don’t get me wrong, I’m not buried in fantasy land that AFC is always right. I just believe that we were left in one hell of a mess in ’04 and Craig has had 3 and a bit years to try and turn the ship around. I think ’06 was out biggest mistake and the right cuts weren’t made – that was partially rectified in ’07. I am keenly awaiting trade week and delisting week because IMO if Triggy and NC are true to their word we are due for our 2nd big cleanout to once and for all rid the team of the Ayres legacy as well as finally remove the “big 4” leaving issue.
Saying that I won’t be the first person banging at the door if I don’t get exactly what I expected but It will be concerning if the structure of the team doesn’t change significantly and I’ll probably be the one bitching and moaning unless there is a very very good reason for the changes not to occur.
