You're not wrong there!

What the hell was with trading two of the hottest young KPPs in the land (Croad/McPharlin) for the pick that became Luke Hodge?

Just to prove that wasn't a fluke: they then backed up with a trade to get Croad back from Freo for the 10th pick, which Freo picked up a good young kid in Ryley Dunn with.

What if it became Chris Judd, who they could've taken?

Yup. IIRC, Luke Ball (who is an absolute sensation) went at #2, Judd (say no more) at #3?

Yet despite being such shoddy traders and a family club to boot .... they still didn't pick up one L.Angwin.

Yeah, that's what I mean. If they had've taken Judd, or Ball, the trade doesn't look so bad. In fact it looks good, doesn't it?

Croad is a dud, McPharlin is injury prone and Hodge will be a star of the future.

Not a really bad trade. You can aruge it wasn't great but certainly not a shocker by any stretch.

Yes, but by that logic our trading would have looked sensational had we chosen to take Wells in the draft - or push hard for Pav - rather than trading for Carey.

But I see your point.

McPharlin has played most of the year & been near AA CHB, but agree Croad is badly over-rated. I think you need to factor in Mitchell to, as I think it ended up being Hodge & Mitchell (drafted) for McPharlin & Croad. Pretty even really, but Dockers now in front as they manage to trade Croad back to the Hawks!

Croad has all the physical weaponry in the world, he's just f-ed in the head, if and when he finally grows up he'll be one of the better CHBs in the land.

As for McPharlin as I've highlighted, if you're going to argue he's injury-prone then what would you call Hodge?

A star of the future I think I said. That's my view.

who gives a toss about another stupid footy cliche being used in regards to the showdown being treated as a grand final.
Its just a cliche, nobody reads into them, they are used as stock standard answers to please everyone involved. Man if we are going to carry on about every cliche used in footy we would be here for decades...and thats just the ones used by Gary Ayres!

Yes

McPharlin was going to go anyway as he was uncontracted and Croad had been doing a lot of media etc. It all has to be taken in context

My point was that the trade was hardly a shocker and is really a value judgment as to who got the best deal

Many hawks fans see Hodge as a future captain, and from what I have seen he will be a star.

Having said that McPharlin will be too but he was going to leave anyway.

I am a natural born idiot when I watch TV and hear the Crows spokespersons saying Saturday's SHOW-down will be treated as a GRAND FINAL

I reckon this joker is onto something here

The Crows to play their Grand Final, each and every year, at the end of August.

It'll save them getting worried about finals in September, they can organise their holidays with certainty, and the Crow players wont have to play such a long season, like say, Brisbane, Port Adelaide & Sydney players, for example.

GEEE I did touch a sore spot with you Cows(sic) supporters, Anyhow, good luck on Saturday in the grand final, but I don't think you will ever find the result in the history books. As for Hawthorn,I am more than happy with the Grand finals they have been in during the last 25 years :D ;) :)

I hope your happy with the way Hawthorn has played in the PAST because by the way your club is going right at the minute you wont be playing off in a GF in the next 25 years.
Oh well on the plus side when your board totally ****** you over you can always merge with Melbourne! ;) :D

What about the fact they didn't make the finals in their first 25 years????

We won two Flags in our frist seven so I wouldn't worry about comparing the two clubs.

Check out our home and away and finals record against each other as well

Hawks are Crows biatches.

and there was always that memorable first Crows game for premiership points in the AFL back in 1991;

Adelaide 24-11 (155) d Hawthorn 9-15 (69)
