The worst thing about this loss, is it comes the day after we get a very rare media puff piece. One that talks about how the club has changed and is moving in the right direction.

One step forward, two steps backwards. But like when the AFL gave us the Good Friday match and then we serve up the most dour football imaginable.

Our own worst enemy

The front half was easily the biggest issue.

They couldn’t even halve contests when we were trying to exit the defensive half which meant our defence was scrambled and the opposition were turning the footy over in their front half.

We couldn’t win the territory battle at all.
If our forwards hold their own, we can set up defensively and control transition. Unfortunately, we couldn’t put a competitive forwards group on the park

The first half looked like the defence was constantly confused and out positioned too. So many times Crows waltzed in without a player anywhere near them.

Geez there’s some harsh supporters here. It would be bordering on delusional thinking that the team that the Saints rolled out today could get within 5 goals on a good day of Adelaide round one in Adelaide.

Added to this was in game injuries etc and the result wasn’t unexpected if we take our rose coloured glasses off.

Luckily there’s an easy win next against Geelong we can look forward to……..lol

Every time I see a comment from saintbill, saintron, saintbloke or Saint Ray (all comically similar usernames too), I smile and picture a 50 something year old man, in a wifebeater, with the largest text possible on their phone, using one finger to bash their keyboard, with their seventh Melbourne Bitter can in the other hand?

Surely I'm not the only one?

Keep up the good work, chiefs.
That's me 2 you fecker... 😀

Nothing dour about it. We forgot to show up and made North look like world beaters.

That's what Richmond supporters said about Richmond v Carlton.

disappointed but not suprised.

Was so disappointed to see jones named, and he did nothing to prove me wrong. He is not part of our future, and he doesn't contribute enough now in the present, so why continue to play him?

Boyd tried hard all day and got better as the game went on, but you can see why he has never been on a list.

I'm worried that Wilkie is going to be to worried about his man now, and will be less effective as an intercept defender, due to having no help down there.

I thought windy tried hard all day, but he looks like his ceiling is just going to be a scrapper.

Byrnes similar, but just not physical and strong enough over the ball. Skills are poor, adds very little.

We can't roll cordy out again, he is getting slower and less mobile by the day, surely keeler could of done a similar job today?

Hill was embarrassing, Clark treacle slow and not fit enough (shock).

Caminiti has gone backwards, and I don't get the hype with schoenmaker. He lacks agility and is slow, doesn't defend well.
Re Wilkie - spot on - with Battle gone (& Howard missing) the balance and understanding of the back line is greatly diminished and Wilkie is forced into a more defensive role on probably bigger bodies - result - we lose his intercept marking and rebound from the back half - big loss

Pretty bloody concerning Trav can't get a game in a team this weak.

Lindsay killing it in the Dees game. Looks a Del Santo prototype. Smooth mover, great skills. Again, exactly what we need.

I have real concerns Lyon is just calling all the shots down there. We are all in on his "manic" running game which doesn't work in the slightest. Many have referred to Lyon saying "Get me a runner, and I will turn them into a footballer". I reckon that sort of thinking is going to kill us. Got to get the footy and use it first ffs.

He has done nothing to fix the obvious holes on the list. It's going to take a lot to convince me Trav at 8 was not a very odd choice given that Reid, Lindsay, Trainor, Allen, all seem a far better fit to what we actually need.

Are you genuinely concerned about our selection of Trav based on us not picking him to play in round 1 in year 1 of his career?

Many St Kilda legends did not make their debut in Round 1 of year 1.

Whether Cal had him at 8 or 88, he was viewed as 1st rounder by virtually all and sundry.

We're hoping he'll play for us for 15 years!

We're criticising him and he didn't even play 😅

King Sharman Henry Owens & Pou are in the best 23 for most clubs in this league

Really? All of them are high potential but would any of them be in high demand. King and Pou probably the most highly regarded but none on actual long term exposed form.

Three weeks before players start coming back?
We gone be easy meat for a few weeks might as well accept that and experiment a bit with players and positions.
Hopefully jag a win or two but not expecting it.

Don’t be silly.

Owens king makes most forward lines.

Sharman Pou and Henry easily off the bench across the league.

I’m not calling them stars. But to dismiss their quality also dismisses any conversation about our potential this year. We might aswell say Richmond are better.

Do you think some players just eased off or were ‘let off’ a bit because they knew that nobody expected us to win??

Feels like the season is going to be done before we get players back. Why can't we have one year where we don't get shat on?
We get shat on with the fixture every February. Then we get shat on having to play that fixture for 7 months. We also get more than our share of being shat on by the umpires across those 7 months.
In the end it doesn't matter since being good enough would negate most of that anyway, but we are the statue and not the pidgin and thats how they want it.

Expected nothing less than a complete meltdown from our fans after a game like that, but let's try and have a bit of perspective. We were missing seven best 22 locks or close to it in King, Owens, Sharman, Howard, Phillipou, Henry, Butler plus an injured Marshall, which caused us to field a very inexperienced side and play guys out of position. When you draft 18 kids in 3 years or whatever it is your depth going to be an issue for a bit, and ours was exposed today.

Also playing maybe the toughest road trip in footy for us, Adelaide were clinical and our guys never recovered from the early gut punch. They aren't stupid, they knew we were fighting an uphill battle and the belief simply wasn't there.

P.S. Anyone criticising the most recent draft needs to look in the mirror and ask a few questions, we won't be able to judge that for a couple of years let alone one week where our guys didn't even play ffs.
