Can someone tell me if Knights plays for the Port Magpies or the Eagles ? I've seen his name for both teams now and am getting confused

Should it be a concern that so many of our young hopefuls can only get a game in the SANFL reserves ??

Or maybe i'm being a little negative & out of touch.

Some of the young KPP's (Maric, Griffen and Gibson) will take a while to push for a seniors spot. As their bodies fill out and they adapt to SANFL footy, it shouldn't be too long before they get a gig in the seniors (especially Maric who already is a big boy).

Knights and Nye, by all accounts are playing good footy, but may be finding it hard to press for selection in to good senior teams like the Eagles and North. Seems like it is only a matter of time.

Schuback and Andrews would be most concerning considering they have been on the list for at least a year.

I just think it is very typical of SANFL coaches. To often an AFL listed player will get over looked for selection in the seniors simply because they are not a part of that club culture, past, present or future.

Ever since day one and even OUR senior coach NC did it at Norwood, he would sit the AFL listed player on the bench or play in the magoos simply because they did not fit into his structure, and that’s fine but a better solution has to be found for the players development. No one can tell me that a player is going to develop his football ability ready for AFL standard playing in the SANFL reserves. Nothing can be done about it because the SANFL will not allow an AFC reserves side or all the players to go the one club. As long as the Adelaide Football Club are making money and we are paying up as members the SANFL will not care how the side or it product is developed.

i think you'll find that NC has told all the clubs to play them in the ressie if they aren't going to get a full game (i've heard this on the board and from a couple of mates playing footy and admistrators)

It's near on impossible to add body size during a footy season. Anaerobic and Aerobic don't mix during the season!!! The only thing that will get them into the seniors is good form....or in Kruegers case.....no injuries.... :(

I thought the same Nod. If they're still playing ressies towards the end of the year it maybe time to panic.

I agree....sure Central, Eagles, and Sturt are a bit tough to break into....but if you're still playing Reserves at the end of the year for Glenelg.....(sorry Springy - just an example)....then you've gotta wonder whether you're AFL list material.

Time will tell

Normally I'd agree with the aerobic/anaerobic statement but it is slightly different for a 17/18 year old. It is still quite possible for them to add body size during the season as their natural testosterone levels are quite high, which is what is required for muscle growth.

You're right about Krueger, hopefully he can get himself on the park otherwise he may not be around next year.

fair enough point provided they've stopped growing vertically.... :)

Correct. Phil Harper said that on the radio before the Collingwood game as well.

They way NC sees it, he would rather youngsters getting full game in reserves than half a game in seniors. The more footy they play the better for their development.

Not really. Even the younger players actually lose weight as the season goes on. The only time they can put on weight is during the offseason and if they are trying to improve their aerobic capacity then they find it extremely difficult to put any significant amoung of weight on.

The year before Hentschel managed to put on 6 kg. During the pre-season this year he only managed to put on 2 kg yet he is still listed at the same weight he was last year ;)

Every player loses weight as the season goes on even the younger ones.

Weight loss - yes. Fat Loss - yes. Muscle loss - Not necessarily..

85kgs at 12% body fat = 74.8kg of muscle.
83kgs at 9% body fat = 75.5kg of muscle.

Thus a player can become stronger and increase muscle size, yet lose 'weight' during the season. Weight is not really the true measure of a players physical progress.

Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that their bodies will take some game time to adapt to the rigors of SANFL football before they get a call up to the seniors. Don't know about you guys but I'd love to see Gibson and Maric in the seniors dominating - makes me salivate ! :D

Uh...you really have a strange view of the human body.

Whoever has those stats has a hell of a lot of muscle and must be incredibly bendy. Although not alive.

Because, you know, bones, organs, entrails, disgestive juices, blood...tend to have a weight as well...
