I didn't like Neil Kerley's bit in the Sunday Mail, where he suggested that one of the candidates for Crows coaching position was " Graham Cornes, with me as his assistant "

Graham, I could wear that one, but certainly not his assistant.
Much too old fashioned with his style of footy. Sorry old boy!!!!

Agreed, but it would be good to see Kerls have an official role in the club. Still has a lot to offer IMO.
Hardness coach
Recruiting overseer

I couldn't agree more. Kerls would still have a lot to offer to teh club. His health might not allow him to be involved full time but his knowledge would be a great asset to the club.

Relic from a bygone era. Keep him well away.

Not bad idea to have him involved in recruiting - great judge of football talent, and that attribute doesn't diminish with age.

Would you sanction placing a WW2 fighter ace at the stick of a Stealth Fighter?

I think you are being way too harsh. I still think Kerls is one of the best talen judges I have come across and as such would be a great asset to the footy club.

I absolutely concur - only problem is we don't have the pick of the state like we did at our conception and recruiting zones don't exist like they did in Knuckles' day.

Today's drafting and recruiting is all about unknown knowns rather than known unknowns - this famed ability of his would be used to our advantage how?

Are we going to wheel him out to every U18 National Championships game? Are we going to give him a home in Melbourne so he can get along to as many TAC Cup games as possible?

How would Kerley possibly be effective in today's day and age?

You may not know, but Kerls did his judging of players once they were at the club.
Able to see the potential in a skinny 16 year old.
Able to judge a players best position.

Send him to the draft camp with our recruiting team for another opinion?

dyertribe you have your answer.

No scout goes to every U18s game. They get assigned a match each week. Kerls would love to go down to one of the U18s matches a week to have a look at some kids.

Can you suggest anyone better??????

Agreed.

I like listening to him on the radio, and reading his articles.

But his active days in footy are well past him. He's 70 now, for god's sake.

Adelaide may get Gasumped by Richmond.
Whilst Ayres walked, and was replaced by Craig, this has effetively taken us out of the coaching market.

Richmond on the otherhand has a coach that definately will not be there next year, so there's nothing stopping them appointing Wallace next week.

Whats Wallace going to do knock back or defer Richmonds offer till the AFC decide what it will do - don't think so - bird in the hand....:( :( :( :( :( :( :(

We're looking as if we won't have a choice other than Craig for next season:( :( :( :(:(

Good call. All we can hope for is that the AFC is one-step-ahead of Richmond and possibly Hawthorn. Who knows what's going on behind the scenes.

Otherwise, like you said, we may be stuck with Craig.

I've started to think that the AFC shouldn't really need 9 weeks to decide on Craig. If after a month of poor showings they decide he's not their man, then appoint Wallace. It doesn't need to be left to the end of the season. There's no need to be courteous to Craig. The club is bigger than the individual. Tough t***ies.

And if that happens the AFC will have once again demonstrated ineptitude of the highest order.

If they haven't formed an opinion of Neil Craig as a potential coach after he has been there for how long - is it 7 or 8 years now - then they are even more dull than the general opinion of them.

Adelaide should be talking to all candidates NOW, which includes Craig, rather than waiting until the year end and possibly being forced to take left-overs.

There is no lack of respect issue here - Craig is the interim fill-in coach, not the obvious or annointed heir apparent.

For all the waffle and hype there are only a very limited number of candidates who could genuinely be considered, a handful or so at best.

If the AFC started the process now, as Richmond has, then I'm sure that Adelaide would get the first pick of the best available, due to it's much greater financial strength.

The selection process should begin immediately.

I didn't think it was a secret that AFC have already spoken to a number of candidates.

That's interesting. The official line from West Lakes is that they have spoken to nobody so far, and don't intend to until the end of the year.

What have you heard or know that is contrary to this, and who have they spoken to, if anybody??

If you believe that:eek:

That may well have been the case B4 Monday.
But now that Richmond have negated our first "chess" move, and our "king" (Wallace) in check, I'm sure the AFC are "planning" their response.

That is of course unless they want to be "checkmated"

I know we have spoken to Wallace ;)

I also get the feeling that we are not all that keen on Eade which suits me perfectly :)
