Roo was on all channels tonight saying that he will be playing up forward as well as playing on the ball.

They also showed vision of Biglands practising his leading and goal kicking skills.

While all this makes sense given the absence of Carey, Stevens, Welsh and Burton as forward options, it barely fits with John Reid's comments of the other day when he said that they had a surprise for Brisbane in respect of their forward line.

Is the surprise that there is no surprise??? Going on national TV and showing what is planned is barely a surprise.

If there is to be a surprise it has to be along the lines of a small open leading forward line to unbalance their defence, by rotating our star mid-fielders through there.

Ins: Begley (to play in defence with Crowell having a stint up forward) and Doughty

Out: Carey and Gallagher

Might even be an open inside 50 with just Roo as the aiming point,

a little surprised at Begleys inclusion as from what i have seen so far he has only had the 1 decent game in the sanfl & that was against Central, but congrats to him & hope he has a pearler.

Don't get too surprised or congatulate him yet noddy. :D

That's only my suggestions on Ins and Outs - we won't know until tomorrow.

Makes a change for me macca, i'm usually a day behind so being a day ahead is a bit of a rarity for me, :(

I have a feeling that one tall will come in and most likely it will be Marsh. Its OK to play a small open forward line but if that doesn't work you need a plan B. If you don't take a tall then there is not much flexibility with your options.

I cannot believe I am saying this but I would bring Marsh in. If the Smaller structure doesn't work out then move Biglands to forward line and play Clarke in the ruck. Once Clarke needs a breather move Biglands into ruck and play Marsh as a forward in small stints. Playing a ruckman as a forward will strech their defence.

Marsh will probably get dropped next week. While I am on the subject of next week,,what would you guys think of bringing in Hentschel for a run against Western Bulldogs. They hardly have any talls and we will bee playing at home which should make things a bit "easier" for Trent??????

How about having Clarke and Marsh doing the majority of the ruckwork and Biglands spending most of his time up forward?

I do like the idea of bringing Hentschel in for the match against Footscray.

WHEN the tall forward line plan doesn't work, we should have a plan B or a small forward line.....as you said Stiffy, seems pretty obvious from news reports and training that we're going to play one of either Biglands and Marsh down there in the forward lines during the game.....may the Lord (and the Lions) have mercy on us, for we are going to be right royally screwed with this setup.

I suggest a peace offering to the Lions players and coach before the game.....maybe a carton of Coopers and vouchers to the Crazy Horse??

If you care to give me the Coopers and those vouchers to the Crazy Horse, I'll make sure they get to the right place, ant.coz I'll keep the bastards for me.

So you'd choose personal pleasure over minimising a potentially percentage-deflating loss?? :o :o

I actually don't have the peace offerings with me, maybe someone would care to supply macca23 and I with them, and we'll make sure they get to the right place.

I think that Stiffy could well be right that they'll go with Marsh either helping Clarke ruck and Biglands at full forward, or even just Marsh at FF.

I'm with ant on this one. It is very unlikely to succeed. We will get screwed well and truly if we go this way. History is littered with the failed attempts by sides to cover deficiencies up forward with a ruckman in this manner.

However they'll probably try it anyway. It would be very unfair to bring Hentschel in for this game.

But as ant said, they'd better have a plan B or we will get thrashed, and that has to be the small forward line, which would be my plan A.

I hope the others aren't reading this . 50-50 it is ant!!

I think the way you have it Dave is what they are thinking, and the only way it has a rough, and I repeat rough, chance of success. Marsh at FF and we are dead ducks.

The Footscray game is definitely the one to earmark for Hentschel.

It's not even so much the fact history is against us......I think it's because Biglands and Marsh are the two we're relying on as targets. Rhett has iffy hands and isn't a very good kick, while Marsh is, well, Marsh.

Could be they just want a tall target up forward to create crumbing opportunities when we have to go long, and this is admirable, but I can see White, Leppitsch and Michael having a field day against opponents that simply do not have the agility, footy smarts or skills to go with them.

Rucci has suggested Bock is a chance for Brisbane.

Stiffy, I like the idea of running Hentschel against the Dogs.

Other in's like Carey and Stevens may keep him out though. If we are coming off two losses (let's hope not though), we would not want any nasty surprises against the Doggies. The selection committee probably wouldn't risk it.

I think it would be a very bad idea to play inexperienced players such as Hentschel or Bock in a game like this and away from home. Having said that Riedy did say on radio the other day that both Hentschel and Bock are a chance for this match. Their name is on the white board and it will be decided today who will come in.

I think having Biglands as a forward might strech Brisbanes defence and Biglands does work hard to keep the ball in the area. Desperate Biglands can give us something. Inexperienced Hentschel and Bock will give us nothing in this game. As I said earlier play Biglands at FF and let Clarke do majority of the ruckwork. When he needs a breather, play Marsh (god forgive me) as a forward and play Biglands in the ruck.

Going with the small forward line has its advantages but if we do that we take away from out midfield and the only chance we have of winning is if we win in the middle.

Geeeez, I hope we don't play Marsh. Why would we play a crap tall who would be slaughtered by his opponent just for the sake of playing a tall / keeping the same structure. Heck Gags would be a better marking option at full forward.

I don't know what people see in Bock. He hasn't done anything IMO to warrant selection. Surely Hentschel is streets ahead of him, but I agree with you guys don't that we don't want to burn him against Brisbane. Bock would be eaten alive by Michael or Leppitsch.

As we don't have any more tall option we will have to improvise. I perfer the idea of rotating a small forward line & using Biglands when Clarke is in ruck (at least he will tackle, chase & compete unlike the other spineless ruckman). We should mix it up during the game to try & unsettle Brisbane.

As a minimum Dogga in for Carey. Not sure if Begley is ready, but is he is, then bring him in for Gallagher (or perhaps Mattner).

Very comfortable with the way you see it Kane. Marsh, Bock or Hentschel up forward would be courting disaster.

If Begley plays, it will be to take Smarty's role in defence as he is 6'2' and very mobile. This would allow Stiffy to play on a wing and the inclusion of Doughty for the other wing would allow us to rotate our mid-field up forward

But why not play Marsh in the ruck when Clarke needs a rest and keep Biglands up forward?

Whichever way the selectors go you have got to hand it to them. Eagles have the bye this week and there is so much talk about Bock or Hentschel coming into the side. Something tells me that we will be taking an emergency to Brisbane. Brisbane have to be guessing just who will come in and what the structure is going to be. Pretty smart thinking by the boys at West Lakes. Even Brisbane spy said on 5aa that he couldn't get much out from the training session as to who will come and and who will play up forward. Ben Hart said he tought that they hid their intentions well during training.

I think that Marsh will come in:eek: (unfortunately). If this is the case I would line them up this way:

F: _ 9. Tyson Edwards _ 22. Ian Perrie _ 5. Ronnie Burns
HF: _ 40. Chris Ladhams _ 8. Nathan Bassett:eek: _ 23. Andrew McLeod
C: _ 20. Tyson Stenglein _ 26. Mark Bickley _ 18. Graham Johncock
HB: _ 15. Jason Torney _ 16. Ken McGregor _ 36. Simon Goodwin
B: _ 34. Ben Hart _ 35. Rhett Biglands:eek: _ 1. Andrew Crowell
1R: _ 4. Matthew Clarke _ 32. Mark Ricciuto _ 10. Matthew Bode

Int: _ 3. Kris Massie _ 11. Michael Doughty _ 28. James Begley _ 31. Ben Marsh:eek:

Many left fielders but we have nothing to loose. Lynch is VERY strong and the only person I see capable of breaking even in one on one contests is Biglands.

Nathan Bassett at his best would be able to provide a contest at CHF and I am hopeing and praying that Ian Perrie from the Wizard Cup returns. Rotate midfielders through the forward line to crumb of Bassett and Perrie.

Thoughts??????
