Damn, that hurts.. couldn't quite there with all against us - namely umpires, crowd and idiot cheersquad commentators.
They made it sound like we were the team to beat and everything these Crows were doing was outstanding ... yet we are the ones trying to return to form from a fairly poor couple of weeks playing in enemy territory against proven top-tier team ..and yet taking it right up to this decorated team!
Super proud though and can handle these brand of honourable losses 10X more than the versions of losses in last 2 weeks.

Great team game ... Standouts = LG (mark in her 2025 AA position right now), Kennedy, Fish and Ham. Thought McEvoy took some important grabs and kicks. Hamilton sisters each did their bit with 16 disposals & 1 goal per sis! :)
A better day out for Chloe too.

We sure had our chances in the last couple of minutes if we didn't just HIT & HOPE boot into our forward half for a quick rebound...there was plenty enough time if we kept hold of ball and setup properly... argh!!

Super disappointing, but I’m very proud of the girls. After the first 10 minutes I thought we’d get done by 60.

First thing that must be said is that the commentary was nauseating. I hate to sound misogynistic, but Kelly Underwood gets so many things wrong. If you’re going to be a professional commentator at least know the names.

It was so biased towards the crows at the end. You’d swear it was the Adelaide cheer squad.

The umpiring was poor. I hate to point the finger at them because it’s a tough job, but you have to be even with those holding the ball calls. We were nearly good enough to overcome them.

Much has been said about our composure going inside 50. Even more glaring to me where our rush kicks out of defensive 50 especially in the first half. We gave the crows so many opportunities to score.

Laura Gardener was excellent. The Mont was outstanding. Zippy fish had her best game in a month. Did she go at 100%? I can’t remember her missing a target.

What was most pleasing for me was that we didn’t give up. Even when we conceited that goal on the three-quarter time bell. We kept going. This is the sort of game that builds character and next year you’d think we’d win a game like this. We’re a young team and we’re learning. We have good days and bad days. But there’s a lot of character there. I take back what I said about this team lacking mongrel. They put me in my place this week.

It gets even harder next week, but what a chance to knock off the golden girls.

Go Swans

Excellent performance despite not getting the four points.

I’ve only read the last page of this thread but it’s enough to learn I wasn’t the only one infuriated by the lack of consistency in the HTB rule application. I hate this new interpretation but the only good thing potentially going for it was the possibility of the strictness taking out umpire judgement and thus creating consistency. About eight or so of the decisions paid against us had an identical twin not paid for us.

Loved Gardiner. Loved Kennedy. Loved Zippy. Loved McEvoy.

And across the whole team there was an intent and aggression that was strangely lacking last week.

I do hope we get Sofia back soon. She just adds a little class to the grunt of Gardiner and Kennedy.

You’re allowed to dislike Underwood for her idiosyncrasies and occasional sloppiness. It’s not the least bit misogynistic. Until, that is, you express a concern about your comment being misogynistic because then it sounds like you’re attributing what you dislike about Underwood to her being a woman, rather than her being Underwood.

Got it. Thing is, Footy and Footy commentary has been such a male dominated thing for so long. I hate to be critical of the change we’re seeing take place. I don’t think it’s misogynistic. I want to support it. But I don’t like Underwood.

They were my thoughts too. We rushed at the end instead of taking our time and looking for a target. We kept bombing it in to outnumbered forwards.

Saw the stats. Holy moly, Gardiner. 37 disposals and 15 tackles
She’s an utter energiser bunny. Literally seems to be everywhere on the ground, all at once. Hope she’s and her new beau spend lots of time together running over December and January. He’s already one of our better runners but there’s always room for improvement!

Sadly unable to watch the game but see that Kennedy rated highly (like Gardiner) yet again. Loved Gowan's comment that he wished she was younger so he could have more years of her. To improve next season these two need reinforcement so that we are better at getting the ball from inside to out. That plus height at either end.

Molloy will hopefully be able to play more midfield minutes next season. It’s easy to forget she’s coming back from an ACL and wouldn’t have been able to get the same volume of work in during the off-season as the rest of the squad.

I loved the effort and intensity but disappointing finish. That slow start hurt. I kind of enjoyed the manic finish but we lacked a bit of polish.

Lucy McEvoy was a rock – she's such a cool head. But it looks like we rely on Montana, Zippy or Chloe to make things happen.

I continue to be amazed by Zippy. Racked up a lazy 25 touche sat 88% and equal-highest 6 marks. Hits it every targets and has a beautiful soft kicking action. So enjoyable to watch.

Was only mildly confused by the umps. I thought they missed lot of frees on both sides, and only seemed to follow the HTB rule sporadically. The free kick count of 13-8 was the lowest of any game this weekend – most had 30-40 frees. I'm guessing maybe they were quite junior umpires.

I wasn't paying too much attention to the commentators though they did go on about Marinoff's 100th game and I seem to be rare person who quite likes Kelli U, who speaks in whole articulated sentences and I think usually captures the moment well. I saw a Crows fan complain that Kelli's "barracking for Sydney in the last quarter" was a disgrace, so there's that.

It was nice to see Unley Oval being put to good use, a lovely suburban oval with the Hills backdrop, despite the Crows fans.

Big thing to take out of that for me is they sorted out the shape around the footy in tight crowded contested situations and the balance between attacking and defending at stoppages... which was the failing two pretty limited teams exploited in the previous two weeks.

They held shape around the ball rather than collapsing in, they watched opponents positions as much as the footy, they moved into positions to provide outlets. Good stuff. If they had played around the contest like that in the last two weeks, they, would be 6-1 right now. It's good to see deficiencies being addressed quickly.

There was a slight tendency to over-handball earlier in the game, which I read as responding to instructions during the week about looking for options under pressure. But then I think a lot of the blazing away in the last quarter was attempting to play the "gain territory" instruction Scott said he gave them.

They're clearly very teachable and responsive,, which is great, but I think at the moment that's making good leadership a substitute for the experience and game sense they're mostly still developing. It'll mean we keep being tactically erratic from quarter to quarter.

I've been on a camping road trip for school holidays with my son the past week and watched this on replay on the road a few days back. I felt both really proud of our performance and really disappointed to lose so closely. It makes those two games we dropped to the Pies and Giants sting more. Improving on our last performance against the Crows by more than 10 goals is an outstanding bit of progress. We went toe to toe with a legit top 4 team.

LG was outstanding! Many other excellent performances too. Well done Steele-Park on her debut. Tanya is continually excellent and Zippy was terrific, recovering some of her early season form (perhaps on the back of other players playing better - she seems to build on the good foundation laid by others but if there's no foundation she can't put the team on her shoulders, at least not at this nascent stage of her career).

She gave it a darned good shake today. There were just few others willing to climb up. I shudder to think what the result would have been today if not for her intercepting and timely tackles. That’s before getting to her actual ball winning, run and use.
