My apologies right. I (clearly) despise being defined by what I earn, the car I drive etc. I could go into my personal life and discuss why, but airing my grievances on a public forum is not the right way to go about it.

Having said that, I stand by the main bullet points of my little tirade.

A touch paranoid?

I can't see that anyone defined or referred to you specifically.

Yeah think I'm with you on this one Cammo, some posters tend to jump on their high horses from time to time and take themselves a little too seriously.

There are issues with interstate favoritism as displayed on the so called "National" networks but to write those issues off as just a symptom of "Victorian market domination" is a little P***Week to me.

Anyone who has had to suffer through half an hour of "Essendon is on the Brink" before us poor middle class can have our 30 seconds of Crows news, understands that there is an issue.

I have said it before but the only way to resolve this is to have local AFL shows in each capital city. Let the Vics have their own show. Let the SA public have theirs (But not a clone of the old Crows Show) something substantial fronted by good SA footy people (Not Rucci).
Have cross overs to the other interstate shows to get their views of footy issues.
Stream it on the internet for supporters who live in other states.
If the networks were to do this the footy public would watch in droves and we wouldn't be burdened by the Victorian perspective on all things AFL.

Also in this day and age with digital TV broadcasts Why can't we have a choice of commentators for each and every AFL game involving interstate teams? Couldn't we just hit the red button to hear SA bias for a change?
Please no more Jacko's or Tony Shaws!

Yeah, I wasn't named specifically, but he linked my statement with that of a lower-middle-class pleb

Look. Last time a checked, this was a public forum. I may not have a bum chum inside the crows circle of trust who can pump out trade rumours, I may not have the most informed view of all posters here, I may not have the script writing abilities if Carl spackler, but I'm here posting nonetheless as I, presumably like most of you, enjoy discussion and the sharing of viewpoints. Not once on this board have I attempted to belittle anyone, berated them for a differing point of view or attempted to put myself in a higher class than anyone else here.

It could be worse, I could be just like d_one, big cox or duritz, proclaiming the ridiculous in order to bait other posters.

I'm here, my opinion is as valid as anyone elses, and I'm not going to stop posting.

:thumbsu::thumbsu: Great post Hunter. Some great ideas, we do have Simply Footy which isn't a bad show, but doesn't get primetime airing like the other "national" shows. Needs to get better with another two interstate teams coming in.

It has been bitched about before with One Week at a time and Footy Classified crows segments, you blink and you miss it, but I don't want to set Riggy off on another rant about us poor lower classes. ;)

Methinks we may have veered slightly off topic...

As are the rest of us mate - not sure any of that was directed at other comments made on this forum but I'll say this.

Anytime I perceive we are posting with a chip on our shoulder as being 'overlooked' by the baddie Victorian's that predominantly influence AFL more than us here in SA - I will typically always post that we should get over it. that's my opinion as i believe we would all be better for it!

fair enough... perhaps we should, but its next to impossible to get any crows news over here... yet we hear half an hour on "hodge for the brownlow" or st kildas latest scandal. if anything, as those stories get covered ad nauseum, we should be getting MORE coverage and that sort of garbage, less... but i guess thats a statement that would require all things to be equal.

mate, im disgruntled. this isnt news. the truly national media should be ashamed... interstate football should get 6/16 (or perhaps 8/18 with gws and gold coast) of the coverage. why should we hear so much about essendon sucking now, when we werent on the national media radar much when we sucked (apart from the "adelaides horror run with injuries" spiel)

Anyone who has had to suffer through half an hour of "Essendon is on the Brink" before us poor middle class can have our 30 seconds of Crows news, understands that there is an issue.

You think that's suffering? Back in 1991, I "followed" the Crows from Sydney, which really meant trying to get a commentary on ABC Adelaide if I could get reception, with no Foxtel, internet, and limited FTA TV coverage. There were no panel / analysis shows (certainly none of the Monday night retrospective variety). Getting 'tiser clippings in the post on a Wednesday or a Thursday was a highlight.

When we did get coverage, it was invariably illuminated by the likes of Don Scott.

Compared to the good old days, there is no issue. Doesn't mean it's perfect, but it's not even in the same ballpark bad as it was.

Good in theory - it won't happen. A few years ago, ABC2 would show the SANFL games late on a Tuesday night into Melbourne, but now they don't. I can't see how the networks find a revenue generating option from having internet streaming of what is a niche program.

If the networks were to do this the footy public would watch in droves and we wouldn't be burdened by the Victorian perspective on all things AFL.

In droves?

Let's look at some numbers.

The Port v Collingwood game got 676,000 viewers - 153,000 (22%) in Adelaide.
Our last FTA game (Adel v Ess) got 497,000 viewers - 134,000 (27%) in Adelaide.
Our last Friday night game (WB v Adelaide) got 611,000 viewers - 172,000 (28%) in Adelaide.

So let's assume 25% of the footy viewing audience is in Adelaide. Let's be generous and that that's 150,000 viewers.

Footy Classified last week got 318,000 viewers - 62,000 (19.5%) in Adelaide. One Week at a time didn't rate (well, it did, just below highlights such as a replay of the Mighty Ducks on 7Two). So something like half the footy watching audience don't have the appetite for a panel show as well.

Your expected audience for a SA-centric show would be maybe 75,000. There's not a commercial station that's investing in that show.

Also in this day and age with digital TV broadcasts Why can't we have a choice of commentators for each and every AFL game involving interstate teams? Couldn't we just hit the red button to hear SA bias for a change?
Please no more Jacko's or Tony Shaws!

I don't care about bias. I want quality, whereever it's from.

Can't believe I missed it

Surely there has to be quality and quantity

Marvin I fail to see your point.

You are saying that because you had it so bad in 91 we should be grateful that we have it slightly better in 2010.

You have also not read my post properly or misunderstood what I was suggesting as you have used the audience figures for 2 sub par Footy programs to back up your claim that a local AFL program would not work.
My suggestion was to have a substantial locally based AFL show produced out of Adelaide fronted by quality SA football identities.
Not replays of SANFL games into Victoria!

Also there is no reason why streaming on the internet cannot be revenue raising.
Charge subscription to the online content.Very common on the internet and I would be more than happy to pay a reasonable fee for a quality program.

As for your expected 75000 viewers for this show, you base this on 25% of the figures from footy classified. A Melbourne based AFL program.
Doesn't it occur to you that the reason for it's poor ratings in Adelaide are more to do with the lack of SA content?

You also say that Bias in commentary does not bother you.
I think you're in the minority with that one.

I look forward to hearing who those quality SA football identities are. Rucci? Cornes? Rowe? McDermott?

Ratings in Adelaide are no better or no worse than anywhere else - the figures seem to support that.

25% or so of footy telecast viewers are in Adelaide.
20% or so of footy panel viewers are in Adelaide.

It's not that SA viewers avoid Footy Classified etc. because they are Vic centric. Australia wide, viewers aren't that interested in those type of shows, and to make them even more niche by having the SA show drives them into a position where you can't make it work financially.

Go ahead and try if you like, but there isn't a business case that I can see.

Surely it has to be financially worthwhile for the people making the effort?

So screw everyone outside of essendon, hawthorn, Geelong, Carlton and collingwood? Seems fair... It's a national comp. It needs to be treated as such. Why not just gives these clubs their own shows and then have one 2 hour job for the rest? It could even be shown in the "danoz" hours.

Marvin I would like to see Rowe out of the ones you suggested but there would be far better than Rucci who I did refer to in my original post as a definite NO.

I think for a local show to work you need something for everyone.
Mum sitting down after cooking for the family might want to see her secret crush from the nineties T.Modra talking old times with A.Jarman or
Grandpa sitting in his rocker might want to hear from Russell Ebert or Rick Davies or Neville Roberts.
The kids lying in front of the telly might want to see P.Dangerfield telling them how he grew up in Geelong only to find himself plying his trade in Adelaide.
And every Dad wants to see the "barrel girl" or watch the Crows cheer squad in action.
But the best thing is there are no ugly Victorian heads to be seen anywhere.
No arrogant Sam Newman types sprewking crap about their superior football abilities and their marvelous state in General.
No Mike Sheahan who unbelievably has only attended a handful of games outside of his beloved Victoria.
No Eddy Maguire. That in itself should guarantee viewers.
SA can do much better than what is currently dished up by this mob.

Whats the comp and running of it got to do with what TV shows are put on and what topics they cover? (outside of match broadcasts obviously).

If there was a market for a more pro-SA team TV show - I'm fairly sure they would make one.

Nikki Visser as Barrel Girl would have me watching in a heart beat :)

If SA can do much better - why haven't we?

It's got nothing to do with the afl. It's about the media.

The media need to treat it as a national comp.

As for the shows I suggested, it was a joke
