Every week we get r*ped (pardon the pun) by the opposition small forwards. Newman and King, while both good players, are attacking backmen. Maybe it is a good opportunity for Andy Collins to make his mark.

milne 7
medhurst 4?

couldnt agree more we just cant match up on them as newy and kingy are too attacking. (to match up on them)

Yep. I don't think we have one on our list tbh. The closest thing we have is Joel Bowden, but he is too slow.

Newman, McMohan, King, Raines and waiting in the wings Conners and Casserly are all rebounding backman but constantly get whipped by their opponents.

Medhurst, Jones, Milne and Rioli have all teared us new ones this year. I think Andrew Raines is the only one that I have seen that has any really natural talent to be a quality small defender. Kingy isn't bad at it, but he gets lost in packs and is killed in aerials contests

I don't think Mal had played enough games for richmond but campbell would of been handy atm.

C Jones isnt exactly small he is 188 cm.

As for last night Kingy just got taught a lesson that is all, he will learn from that, Sure Kingy is an attacking backman, but at the end of the day he is a backman he needs to man up or atleast get goal side on players like Milne. Its not like the club should go our at years end and target a young small backman in the draft. That would be just stupid.

We have the players at the club to cover our problem with small forwards, I think this thread is just another excuse to have a whinge.

i think we did a great job last night matching up on their tall fowards.
C Jones still is virtually a crumming foward who can lead up and we didnt have a match-up for him.

Im quite happy with the way we played last night but was disappointed milne kicked 7. But dont say i am whinging because i have 1 or 2 problems with the team

It is not a whinge peanut. It is a discussion about the fact that opposition small forwards have been our achilles for many years.

LMAO @ peanut :p

And I'm telling you to get over it :thumbsu:

King was the ideal match up for Milne like it or not he got his pants pulled down, Milnes first goal is a perfect example, King should of taken that mark with one grab, instead he let Milne in and paid the price.

King is in experienced, he will learn how important it is to get goal side of goal sneaks like Milne, then use his attacking ability to hurt these unaccountable forwards.

I dont think this is an issue like it was 3 - 4 years ago, we have players who can play the position.

Problem is King has been taught the same lesson plenty of times already and hasn't learnt anything. I know everyone on this board loves him, but he just isn't AFL standard IMO. There is a difference between bravado and courage. King has tons of bravado, but shits himself every time he gets the ball. St Kilda kicked the first goal because King was packing himself about what was coming from behind and dropped a simple mark. Its great the way he takes opponents on, but it would be even better if he had some idea what he was going to do with the ball once he gets past them.

i disagree...i think he knows what he is doing and is imo the one who goes hardest. sure he may have dropped the mark but it was the start of the game wasn't it? well from memory it was anyway..and everyone has a little bit of nerves they need to get over in the first few minutes of gameplay

Your kidding right?

Kingy has played less then 30 AFL games and is crucial to our success every week. The mark was just out of his reach he didnt drop a simple mark.

Kingy will learn.

Stay goalside mate :thumbsu:

Small forwards can't do anything at all if you stay goalside. All they can do is force a snapshot which is only going to go through 50% of the time.

get ur hand off it

what a joke of a thing to say! he dropped an absolute sitter, that was piss poor and unacceptable and was one of 2 absolute gifts we gave them for the game.

I'll give him credit where its due, he bounced back well after that and I dont think they should have moved newman onto milne bc King was better suited and ran off Milne as well.

I was going to start a thread about it but ill write it here as its got to do with milne anyway. The umpires were a joke, Milne got 2 goals from freekicks that shouldve been paid to us. He had moore in a bear hug and then ran onto the ball into an open goal in the 4th quarter i think and in the 2nd quarter Gherig was pulling Richos arm in the contest! and the ball fell to Milne who snapped, add the King dropped mark and thats 3 goals the little fu.cking p.rick scored from gifts

I realise King has only played about 30 games, but he is still making the same mistakes he was making in his 10th game. He has improved his run and carry, but I can't see where the rest of the improvement is going to come from. He gets caught ball watching too much and his opponents drop away from him.

Hell yes!...oh wait, my bad, I though you were talking about the good Johnson ;)

For david, a Big M, mocca flavoured?

It better be a large........
