'In a player profile recently featured on the Swan Districts website, Dennis Armfield was asked to volunteer one word best used to describe himself.
“Determined” came the reply.'

He sounds very confident and optimistic. By the looks of the footage they showed of him training, he also seems very committed and tough which is exactly what we need more of. I'm starting to take a liking to this boy already.

Definitely looks and sounds like a pretty level headed bloke who knows what he has to do in order to forge an AFL career for himself.

Not really, as they will most probably be groomed to play completely different positions.

Armfield, from all indications thus far, is being developed into a defensive runner and negator.

Russell can play through the middle at times, but will mainly be presenting from the half forward line.

Sounds like a pretty exciting prospect, especially since he only took up the game in 2003. Looking forward to seeing him out there in 2008. Especially having a look at the torps.

They will play defensive jobs but that allows people Houlihan, Walker etc to play on HF line, if Russel doesn't step up next season his position will be taken by somebody else.

In the backline we have players like

Austin, Bower, Jamison, Anderson, now Armfield all trying to break a regular gig.

We don't need to play Houlihan or Walker on the HB line anymore if these type of guys can cement a spot. This means those guys will be given greater run in the midfield or a spot on the HF line which = bye bye Russell.

Russell has potential but so far he hasn't been overly impressive, he needs to improve in 08 and try make a position his own.

Noticed that he had a previous rugby background.
I was watching a video of him the other day and he looks fast, with a good attack on the ball and an excellent tackler.
I think that this kid could end up being a real steal for us and help to add some of that aggression that we've been missing for a couple of years.

I really like the look & sound of this kid.
sounds like he has deffinitely put in the hard yards over the last couple of years to try & make it in the AFL & to have a red hot crack at it.
I really think now that he is there.......he knows what it will take to stay there & I really feel that he WILL want to stay there..... he really seems keen.

Good to hear that he loves the backline & he really loves to tackle.....something the blue boys need atm

looks very promosing, whats even more exciting is that he has only played AFL since 2003. He is said to be a determined player who likes to run, chase and takle players, players like this is what we lacked in the past. Hopefully he can bring some intensity to the side along with others and we can stop dropping of in the last quarter like we did last year and continue to press and work hard so we dont throw away the game like we did many times.
