Scott Gumbleton was training recently and Bachar Houli not on that list, good to see.

Also, the McVeigh injury is a serous blow for our chances in making the eight. Hope he can make a speedy recovery, his a good player for us.

EDIT - Its good see us wining 4 in a row with our depleted line-up.

Any news on the seriousness of Monfries and Neagle's injuries yesterday? Saw Neagle head down into the rooms yesterday but completely missed what happened to Monfries and only noticed his absence when I read about it after the game. Saw the vision on TV of him coming him being carried off by the trainers. Did not look good. Hopefully we get a few back this week.

Knighter mentioned that Gus, Neagle and Fletch will probably have scans on Monday (all have ankle injuries). So until then, we don't know.

Cheers.

Neagle is ridiculously unfit. Has talent but needs a good pre-season behind him this year. Always seem to hear stories of Neagle being proppy on his ankle. Perhaps it is time to put him out for the year and let him get right for pre-season. With Gumbleton to return soon it would help solve the dilemma of where to put Gumbleton.

Essendon’s encounter with Richmond has only added to the club’s troubled run with injuries this season. The match took three casualties with Andrew Welsh (concussion), Angus Monfries (ankle) and Jay Neagle (ankle), feeling the worse for wear following the game.
Welsh is expected to be available for selection this week after heavy knock to the head left him concussed. Dustin Fletcher is also likely to resume against Collingwood this week after an ankle injury kept him out of the Richmond match.
The injury news is also better for Darcy Daniher and Courtenay Dempsey who will undergo fitness tests this week to determine whether they are able to return to football on the weekend.
Courtney Johns will undergo a knee reconstruction today as a result of an injury sustained in the VFL.
Meanwhile, Rhys Magin has been promoted to the senior list.

Groin operation rules Houli out for season

Bachar Houli will have a groin operation in Sydney on Wednesday and will miss the rest of the season.

Team manager, David Calthorpe, said the 19-year-old visited the surgeon this week and was told he needed an adductor release.

“He has the early signs of osteitis pubis,” Calthorpe said.

“Fortunately, we discovered this quite quickly and are dealing with it now so we can get him up for the start of the pre-season.

“Bachar is looking at a minimum of eight weeks before he is right to go again so, obviously, that is the end of his season.”

Houli has played 13 games for Essendon after being taken with pick No. 42 in 2006.

Calthorpe said, by treating the injury early, the Round 1 rising star nomination will recover quicker and avoid further damage.

“Some players try and manage it and get through the season but, with the situation we are in at the moment with him, our best option is to get Bachar in and have the procedure now so he can have a full pre-season for us,” Calthorpe said.

“We have had a couple of success stories with dealing with this injury early including Heath Hocking this year and Leroy Jetta last year.

"Both players have come back without any set-backs from that procedure and come back bigger, fitter and stronger."

Calthorpe said Bachar showed some good early season form but, line-line with how the team was traveling as a group, his form dropped off but was starting to return.

"He was starting to really forge himself as a prominent player for us so it is unfortunate this happened to him," he said.

“If we get him fixed now it will give him every opportunity to have a full pre-season and get back into it and get his spot back in the side in 2009.”

How is Myers coming along? Is he still set to return R19-20? If he is fit then do you think he will get a game or just sit out the rest of the season?

Wouldn't he got to Bendigo first?

Why would we bother to run him thru the reserves... Surely if he is fit then he will play 1's! No need to protect him or get his confidence up. We can't make the finals! Every game counts for his development.

Ps. Not if your short on the bench with Supercoach due to Chad Cornes having surgery!
