There's no point mucking around with false hope and mislaid potential - this is the season for the early write-off.

Thanks Dale Thomas for proving to Collingwood fans once again the ineptitude of our recruiters.

We are the only club that would take someone who drops 10m short in a set shot from 40m and misses one in the open from 25m at #2 in the draft, ahead of the silky skilled player every intelligent football judge expects.

Prepare to be slaughtered mate.

Ever heard of nerves? I watched him in the TAC GF and he is a good player, give him time FFS.

geez , give the kid chance. Marc murphy's kicking wasn't great last night. most kids take time to settle . In 8 months time you may be able to start to form an opinion . we wont know for another 2-3 years if he is going to be as good as most fans hope

I should point out that my post was at least 3/4 tongue in cheek... but I guess the joke will be lost in a torrent of abuse that anyone dare to suggest the newest recruit is anything but the messiah.

.

How ironic. ;)

How many games do you think our recruiters have seen him play? Your judgement is based on one preseason game ( correct me if im wrong ;) )...

Yeah jeez give the kid a chance, I thought he did a few nice things and didnt have a huge expectation that he was gonna come in kick 5 goals, play 4 full qtrs, rack up 30 possesions and grab the game by the balls and win it for us. Maybe in 1 or 2 years after he has had some more experience and bulked up a bit u can start to judge him about how good he is.

Who said he was supposed to be the messiah.

What was the other quarter percent?

Thomas was nervous at last week's intra-club, then he loosened up and was one of our most impressive players.

He was nervous again today. Still, he did a couple of nice things and he'll do plenty more in the future.

Not impressive my arse!

He showed toughness, skill and genuine smarts today. I was sitting near Collingwood supporters, and they all think he is ready-made.

Not only is Thomas classy, he frees up Didak. Thomas moved onto a HFF/Wing in the last quarter, that allowed the ever dangerous Didak to roam around the forward line (where he belongs of course).

Malthouse should play him off the bench in Round 1. Thomas will be a very, very good footballer. Mark my words.

On kicking, no. Bounce, presence, yes. MM chose not to give him the easier FP role but onball and his first touch of grab at a dive and handball in one motion shows we have class abounding down the track.

Good game time, good class.

But what of the real story - OB back to an onballtough, Licca BOG, Holland somewhere in between, and Lockyer linking defence to attack. Johnson, Davies, Didak and Davis all showed an extra fast mid presence.

If we at least broke even or ahead in the mid, was less worried by thr showing of Thomas than that of Cara (how many turnovers?), Richards, and Walker. Rocca will do with the run as well (we may need to downsize crowd expectations of his once bifboot).

Dear God.

Writing off a player in his first competitive game and in front of a big crowd. I guess you didn't see his tackles or shepards, eh? He can only improve. Same with Marc Murhpy for the Blues last night.

I thought Dale Thomas was very impressive. At least he chased, tackled, prepared to put on a shepherd for his team mates and harrassed the Saints. It was his first game against MEN and he did well.

Who would you rather have in the team, a small forward with electrfying pace (something we desperately need), causes turnovers and applies forward 50 pressure OR

Blake Caracella, the softest player in the league, who DOES NOT chase, tackle or make an effort to get involved in a contest. Don't think Caracella touched the footy apart from when he got run down from behind.

A great effort considering that we were without Buckley, Clement, Burns and Wakelin. Jason Cloke, BOG by a mile!

While he wasn't super impresive today he looked ok when he got near it, showed footy smarts but like I said wasn't great and showed some nerves missing some easy shots. Geez, give him time!! I'll wait till the end of the season for my judgement on taking him with the 2nd pick, perhaps even a couple of seasons.

Toughness: Thomas > Caracella
Smarts: Thomas > Caracella
Skill: Caracella > Thomas. But this would probably change over time.

Realistically, Thomas will overtake Caracella's position in the team.

I wont say anything too critical as he is too young and will need 2 years but lets me just say that I wasnt overly impressed for his first hit out and it will always be raised, which other players Collingwood could have picked with selection 2:eek:

Mitchell Clark now that was a debut...

I prefer having Thomas.
