Collins came onboard with Voss after the end of the 08 season didn't he? It might simply have been the player referring to that time. It might also be something that related to his job prior to coming onboard with the Lions (at the AIS I think from memory). Third possibility is the player simply misrecalled how long Collins has been there and the incident referred to relating to a time latter than he said.

Thanks for the heads up TLL. Its good to know that Voss is still held in high regard by the playing group nws the poor form.

Apologies if I have caused confusion. The player told me about it a fair while ago, maybe it's just my memory. I didn't get to talk to them about how good he is at his job, just got a very strong impression from both (talked to them separately) that he isn't a great human. Hate to come across as a Collins basher-but I also talked to a mate who worked with Collins while he was involved with Easts in the Queensland Cup, unfortunately got the exact same response. But yeah Quigs, both players really like Vossy which is great to hear.

This part I seriously don't get.... it does not sound overly professional to me.

This year I've only had 2 concerns about the Lions - not the poor form, turnovers, injuries, whether Voss could coach, Fev V Bradshaw, Rischa to Carlton etc - but a comment when Voss said that as soon as the medical staff tell me he (Jonathon Brown) has an injury that I will asess his position - after 2 weeks of Brownie being unable to accelerate or turn and the other is the issue raised in this post.

I do somewhat agree with this. At least Voss has conceded they didn't handle Brown the way they should have. I think there is equal blame on the medical department as well as Voss for that one. Even when injured, Brown adds to our team, and i genuinely think they thought he would improve, and he did. The way he moved from round 5 to round 10 is very different, but he probably should have just been given 3 weeks off early. I don't think it is a mistake Voss will make again, and i think we are seeing that with Black and Drummond now at the back end of the season, Also Goose who seems to have been rested.

I think the part about the staffing has a bit to do with a few people moving on last year, and they just haven't found replacements for them. It isn't easy replacing some of those people, and i'd rather them take their time and get the person they want, rather than worrying about filling the position asap. As a result, they have had Collins do a part time role. These are the kind of things that should be picked up and fixed during the review. Clearly they don't have the right people in the right places, and they need to get that fixed.

Brisbane Lions review could see Michael Voss lose right-hand man Dan Collins

MICHAEL Voss's power base will be greatly eroded in 2011 with his right-hand man, Dan Collins, set to be a casualty of the Lions' contentious post-season review.

The Sunday Mail has also been told that key players are prepared to reveal during the review process that Collins is not suited to the top job.

There has been no suggestion Collins would be sacked.

But Kelly revealed that finding a high-profile, senior football identity would be a focus of the review.

Don't think he will leave the club, as the headline of the article suggests, yet the article itself goes back on. Voss said earlier in the year Collins is doing more jobs than he was originally brought in to do. We need that big experienced football person to take that role, so Collins can go back to what he was doing last year.
