So you'll would of been happy to trade Sloane to St.Kilda for say, Pick 43?Pick 9 is an inprovement on what we selected Danger with (pick 10)
worst case I would probably take it so Geelong lose something

Could NT be considered part of SA?(Young) South Aussies on Geelong's list:
Lincoln McCarthy (23)
Dean Gore (19)
Jordan Murdoch (23)
Cory Gregson (19)
GHS (23)
Zac Bates (20)
Tom Read (19)
The ref to hawks and other free agents is pointless. To be honest I'm not sure why you quoted me.
I've been saying from day dot that you should match and force Geelong into trading for Danger. However you are never going to get his true value.
If you can get Geelong's pick 9 plus their second rounder either this year or next you will have done well.
These restricted FA trades are a bit tricky unless you got the wooden spoon or close to it.
Give up too easily and you'll get bugger all. Go too hard and you could end up even worse.
The trick is to end up somewhere in the middle and cut your losses.

In simple terms, you're right. But players/picks still have an estimated 'value' to clubs. This works both ways. Geelong stand to gain by gaining Danger's signature as easy as possible through trade. They may have to give up more, but they still stand to make 'profit' so to speak. You don't seem to get it, dangers gone. You will take pick 9 if it comes down to it because pick 9 is better than 14. Geelong put that on the table and walk away, what is fagan and Adelaide going to do? walk away from pick 9 just to spite geelong? Net result Adelaide loose pick 9. Geelong net lose? nothing!! because they never had danger to start with and have a chance in the draft.
Or fagan, Adelaide and Geelong can come up with a trade that benefits BOTH clubs at much as possible.
Screwing geelong with a trade to weaken them is illogical, 16 other teams to worry about plus remember we finished 10th this year?
But it all hinges on Adelaide and Geelong making a deal that takes into account both the FA selection and a trade. The AFL has said that FA must be completely separate to any trade deals. But taking a compensation pick does make at least one back end pick redundant. For example if you are only using 3 picks and you have two 1st round picks and a second the any picks after the second round aren't needed. This can be packaged up to bring in more valuable picks such as future picks.
Not great but better than nothing.
In saying this I do think that the only way we can even start getting close to value is to trade. You will almost never replace danger with a like for like. What we do need to aim for is 2 players, where they both might be 20% worse than danger but they displace a player who is 30% worse than them. That way the team as a whole improve.
So in other words we HAVE to bring in at least two players both significantly better than the worst player in our 22. That needs to be our guiding principle in this.
Nah, it has to be Corey Enright surely.....(Young) South Aussies on Geelong's list:

The balancing act is pick 14(for arguments sake) and two years of danger vs pick 9 and greegson.Yep, fair cop and while I do know the rules including that one, that was just a rare brain fart on my part. But since pick #14 is practically nothing in the minds of all and sundry on here, and you're all supremely confident about getting two first rounders as well as at least one quality player from Geelong, would it be worth keeping Danger for two additional years if it meant losing a first round draft pick and a quality player?
Oh oh.Was out at lunch at today in the central markets and saw GHS walking around with a few friends. I assume he is over here on his break.
From the "young" list someone else posted. Not a case of "thinking" who it might be. Any way he has a contract so I guess he must agree to be traded, although it would be hard to hang around when Geelong is asking that you be part of the deal.Hmmm… yeah... I'm gonna have to ask you to elaborate on that just a little. It's kinda not very helpful at the moment. Last time I counted there were 12 South Aussies on the Geelong list. You're prolly gonna have to actually spit it out and say who you think it might be.

nope, but worst case alternatives are:So you'll would of been happy to trade Sloane to St.Kilda for say, Pick 43?![]()
Pftt... Adelaide risk getting nothing for danger if geelong walk?
We are old hats at this man. The last franchise player that left COST us 4-6 first and second round picks!
Not losing anything in this danger trade would me a major step up from there.
Yes, but I was referring to Adelaide having pick #9 and nexr year's first rounder plus a player like Gregson. Would you sacrifice pick #9, another first rounder in 2016 and Cory Gregson for two additional Dangerfield years and pick #14? I'd say no, but I can't speak on your behalf so I'll let you answer. The balancing act is pick 14(for arguments sake) and two years of danger vs pick 9 and greegson.
I would probably take the first.

We've all been suspecting Gregson or Murdoch would be in consideration, and dreading GHS. Surely it won't be one of the other also-rans.From the "young" list someone else posted. Thats fair two 1st rounders would have hurt you to say but youre honest. PD has stated he wants a fair trade, your answer is fair for sure. I would offer two firsts and probably a player on the list 25-35 for pendles the age is a concern, maybe Robbie Gray or Chad wingard would be worth two first and a player more so Gray. I would be happy for Adelaide to swap those picks for that quality, how many picks will you have before you get a champion.
Adelaide loses their bargaining power if Paddy is a campaigner and nominates the draft.
That's where I see a chance of it being messy. I don't believe it will, it's not Essendon after all.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - there is no way Danger will go anywhere near the draft. It won't solve his problem - he wants to get to Geelong, but he won't get there in the draft. He'll end up at Carlton or Brisbane or Melbourne. Doesn't matter if he says he'll only sign a 1 year deal, because when that deal is up, Geelong will still have to negotiate a trade with that club, and there won't even be any free agent card for Danger to play since he'll only have been there 1 year. And that intermediate club won't mind because they'll be turning a preseason draft pick this year into a couple of really good draft picks / players next year - who wouldn't take that deal?
If Geelong don't come up with a trade to satisfy the Crows, Danger will sign on with the Crows for 2 more years and then take the Unrestricted Free Agency Express direct to Geelong. The alternative is spend the rest of his career bouncing around in the draft from one cellar dweller to the next on 1 year deals until eventually either (a) Geelong stump up fair market value for him in a trade (which will at least be a bit less when he's 29 years old than it is now at 25) or (b) Geelong claim a wooden spoon and thus get pick 1 in the draft, thus giving Danger guaranteed free passage that way.
So there are only 3 possible outcomes here:
(1) Geelong and Adelaide work out a mutually acceptable trade this year
(2) Danger signs on with the Crows for 2 more years and then goes to Geelong as an unrestricted free agent
(3) Geelong give up on this salary structure they've got and blow the Crows out of the water with a huge offer - $1m or $1.2m a year or whatever.
I actually think option 3 is more likely than people seem to give it credit for. If Geelong don't want to give up quality picks and / or players to get Danger, then they have to pay the price somewhere else, and that's in the form of a monster salary. Say they offered $1m a year, so $200k over what they wanted to pay, works out to $1m over 5 years or $1.2m over 6 (I hear mixed stories of the duration of contract they've offered). At the end of the day it means they're paying $1m - $1.2m in order to keep 2 first round draft picks or equivalent players, so $500k-600k each. If you could buy a pick in the first round of the draft for $500k, don't you think every club in the comp would be lining up to do it? That's the proposition facing Geelong. Give up the picks to get Danger now on a discount salary, or pay him the extra dollars and keep all their picks. Or wait 2 years and get him for nothing on the discount salary.

Let's just hope for Geelong's sake that frank isn't doing any dodgy deals with danger. Would be a shame if the cats not only lost two first rounders to pick up PD but also two years worth of picks for undeclared TPPs.Two words : Frank Costa
He will be at Geelong next year of that I have absolutely no doubt.
Wouldn't surprise me! Time will tell I guess!Let's just hope for Geelong's sake that frank isn't doing any dodgy deals with danger. Would be a shame if the cats not only lost two first rounders to pick up PD but also two years worth of picks for undeclared TPPs.
